It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. Like a story should be without all of the fanfare
Revisado: 07-19-24
I would call this a classic story. One without any fanfare, without the gaming systems getting in the way of story telling. Without too much explanation of the gaming system and any information revealed is tied so well into the story. The story slowly unfold like an opening flower.
The story is mostly about characters, character development. It's just a good story.

Historia
What are the roots of radicalism? Journalist Carla Power came to this question well before the January 6, 2021, attack in Washington, DC, turned our country’s attention to the problem of domestic radicalization. Her entry point was a different wave of radical panic - the way populists and pundits encouraged us to see the young people who joined ISIS or other terrorist organizations as simple monsters. Power wanted to chip away at the stereotypes by focusing not on what these young people had done but why.

Humanist trying to explore extremists
Revisado: 03-31-23
The author is a humanist trying to explore extremists, their reasoning for joining and some of the ways in which they were deradicalized although not delving deeply into the methods, concentrating on the human side of things and ignoring the reasons & persons who radicalize & continue to radicalize others.
About an hour to the end the Author mentions Israel national law which like other religious countries states that the country it meant for a specific religion, the Author states that it's an apartheid and non-Jews are "2nd class citizens" even though non-Jews receive full rights like everybody else and even though other countries have similar laws like the U.S being an atheist country and not a Muslim or a Christian country, other Middle-Eastern countries being a religious Muslim country and not Jewish, Christian, Secular or Atheist. This is were the author is quoting Islamist propaganda & reasoning.
Not the book that I was looking for but I was trying to delve a bit deeper into deradicalization.

He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Great Book
Revisado: 05-14-21
great book, builds the world at the start. doesn't use the usual sc-fi tropes like shields etc and is more down to earth and sci-fi based. There were times that I found it hard to let go of the book (say after about a 1/3 or a 1/4 of the book)
a little sound effects would have added to the book but the book was excellent. Recommended

Good & Realistic Book
Revisado: 02-22-21
I was hesitant at first to get the book due to previous reviews but the story idea stuck to me and I really wanted to try it out.
The story is well thought of, it explains everything well at first and doesn't leave loop holes like infecting people with new unknown diseases etc.
The main character of the book (Joe) is a normal educated person that manages to do various stuff when finding himself on an entirely new planet. There is some fighting at the end of the book but the book isn't about it.

Historia
An AI overseer and a human crew arrive on a distant planet to salvage an ancient UN starship. The overseer is unhappy. The crew, well, they're certainly no A-team. Not even a C-team on the best of days. And worse? Urmahon Beta, the planet, is at the ass-end of nowhere. Everybody expects this to be a long, ugly, and thankless job. Then it all goes disastrously wrong. What they thought was an uninhabited backwater turns out to be anything but empty.

Unexpected Quality Sci-Fi Book
Revisado: 11-19-20
I came to this book without any expectations it was recommended by an author that I like (Craig Alanson), The description of the book didn't give too much away and I thought that I'll just go away with it and try it, at worst case I can return the book if it's boring.
The story or the description of the story sounds boring but the story keeps evolving, it keep drawing you and revealing more and more about the galaxy, society and how stuff works. About the issues and problems.
It's one of those that you might better come without any expectations, knowing that a movie is a blockbuster movie usually ruins it for me because I keep expecting for the big highlight instead of enjoying the story.
The book left me with an "aftertaste", with a wondering about what if and stuff.
It is a good book, I'll try to follow the author see if he has more.
NARRATION
I had a small issue with the narration. The narrator at times when reading a sentence start lowering his voice near the end of some sentences, usually those are descriptive words and you can get away with it. that bothered me when listening in the car. I would have deducted a star away but the issue seems to disappear when listening at home or gone completely away past roughly the 1/3 of the book so it might be an issue with me.
I would have deducted half a star away from the performance but there's no option with that.
I'll consider it partly an issue on my side and leave it at 5 stars and write it as a mini warning here.
SUMMERY
the book is recommended, the story kept changing and drawing me in and I liked the end result

A basic book about cats
Revisado: 11-04-19
I've been wanting a cat ever since I was in my twenties, about 15+ years ago and have read books about them but I never did get a cat. I've finally decided to get a cat and have decided that a little refresh wouldn't hurt so I got this book with a coupon I had.
The book is short and simple, it describes a few cat breeds although only the most popular ones and not a complete list. It helped looking at their images on the internet while listening to the book.
Besides that there are a few basic instructions and a list of things that you should get, how to get a cat, what type, pure breed or from a shelter etc.
There was one thing that I didn't know, that you either get a cat scratch post or trim or cats nails.
There are no tips in the book even a simple one about a cat carrier so I'll give this tip: when getting a cat you'll need a cat carrier in case you need to take him to the vet.
DO NOT let the cat associate the cat carrier with ONLY the vet. Try to keep the cat carrier around the house (maybe to sleep or rest in?) or use it to carry the cat to other places (family or to walk in a park?) because if the cat associate the cat carrier with a vet. worst case scenarios includes him running to hide, scratching and hissing, that's a worst case scenario though and most cats will not do or behave this way.
If you want a cheap, short and a quick book this is the book for you.
If you want a more comprehensive book, I couldn't find any at the time I bought this book. Either new books came out or try a normal paper book because there are plenty of those.
And good luck with your cat or kitten.

Thanks for the last explanation section
Revisado: 08-27-19
The author thought really long and hard if to include an explanation in the end of his book about something scientific he used (the double slit experiment, you can find it on youtube for example)
I really wish to thank the author for his explanation, without it I would have thought it more of something mystical which is simply wrong and that a smart scientists will eventually figure it out and "fix" it.

Candy for your ears
Revisado: 06-23-19
This is a real production of an audio book filled with lots of narrators, sound effects and music. Almost all of the time you'll hear something in the background so if you're OCD or just can't concentrate with background music or sounds you need to think twice about it (but audible has a return policy so you might as well give it a try)
If you're an expeditionary force fan get this book. I wish all of the audio publishers would have at least TRY to get to this level of a production (at least a minimal sound of doors, radio or some other sound effect). The sound effect varied and never repeated themselves.
If you get all the other books in the expeditionary force series but don't get this one you're missing out.
Too bad there's no way to really differentiate exceptional performance such as those in audible search or filter system.
I would give Performance ***** +++ (5 stars rating and 3 pluses for: multiple narrators, sounds effects, and putting it all together.

Predictable
Revisado: 07-29-18
Another interesting take on the mind transfer idea, although the idea falls a bit flat. The plots & twists in the book are somewhat predictable. I do not believe the characters develop or change in the course of the book and predictably the 'evil' in the book is just pure evil without any justifications or reasoning behind being 'evil'
Overall this is a nice book but not spectacular which is why I gave only 4 points to the story category.
I wonder if book 2 will be significantly better.

Not getting to the point
Revisado: 07-26-18
I do not believe that the book is bad, I believe that the author tried to lengthen the book.
The book had one main interesting plotline but that plotline is too far apart (at the 2.4, 4 & 6 hours Mark) and is spread around the book via other sub stories which will probably Marge later on to a single story but what I can't take anymore is the philosophy that starts with each of this sub stories.
You get to like one story or plot only to have it stopped and moved in to philosophy and something else. It reminds me my conversations with my roommate who also like philosophy: we would start discussing a point only to move on to other things and eventually reach a discussion about something completely different. Even when I noticed it it was extremely hard to keep him on subject.
I do not believe this book or story is bad. I just can't take it anymore this jumping around between plots
