You really can't go wrong with this combination of author and narrator. I'm pretty sure Gayou could write a book about how lame I am, and Bray could narrate it, and I would give it five stars.
On to the actual story: It is in depth, interesting, and not predictable. As with the commune series, the author knows how to do his research and write his characters as real people. I don't know what else I can say without gushing spoilers, so I will wrap up this review by saying that, yes, you do need to listen to this.

From Heinlein's Moon to Daniel Suarez, but more engaging. I loved this book. Joshua Gayou is a rising star. As always an award winning performance by R.C. Bray.

Joshua Gayou has with this book placed himself amongst the great authors like Asimov, Heinlen, Herbert, Arthur C. Clark because he is able to weave science, psychology, prose and a narrative that captures, challenges and pushes us deep into the philosophical and scientific realms of What If.

Best SciFi in Years

Joshua Gayou is a spectacular writer. For me, his writing is similar to listening to a beautiful piece of music or viewing a rare piece of art. I was emotionally moved throughout sometimes laughing, sometimes angry and other times moved to tears. I could not recommend this book more and as always R.C. Bray for a fantastic job with the narration.

another book that I've had to physically put down due to the power powerful storyline . I have not even finished the book but need it to write this review. this is highbrow science fiction though, and it is written for those willing to invest the time for the story to start. I have to remind myself that the scenes that are so vivid and emotional have nothing to do with reality.

A well written novel, but with questionable plot points. For example, the author chooses to derail the plot, pun intended, on a lengthy chase side plot that took up 1/3 of the length. For me, the big reveal at the end was not worth the wait. And unnecessary F-bombs galore.

I agree with the vast majority of other reviewers who say it was two stories mashed together. This didn’t COMPLETELY kill it for me, as I kept feeling like a really good story was just inches away — but the author just couldn’t quite take us there. So, lots of impatient frustration that the book just wasn’t getting as clear or compelling as it could.

The ending left me actually yelling at my phone. The absurdly-sudden “The End,” after lots of mysterious unanswered questions left just floating out there. And that super annoying music coming in ...

The only truly-enjoyable element for me was the HILARIOUS dialog between Giles & Sigma the hoplite. I laughed out loud quite a lot. Thank you for that! R.C. Bray is a true pleasure to hear!!

It had potential...which was unrealized. I’m also not a huge R.C. Bray fan. IMO he’s fine for voicing cocky military type stuff but his voice is just wrong for geeky hard sci fi.

Enjoyed the book a lot. Did have a dull part about the middle so I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
