Historia
Eileen has never been interested in love. Ever since her father's abandonment, she's vowed to never experience such pain again. But the enchanted forest has different ideas. When the continuously shifting pathways lead her to a mysterious stranger, Eileen finds her promise to fiercely guard her heart increasingly difficult to keep. One night when she becomes lost in a storm, the enchanted forest's pathways lead her to the castle, home to the kingdom's Dark Prince, where Eileen finds herself entangled in what many consider an opportunity but which Eileen believes to be a curse.

Amusingly Shallow
Revisado: 10-12-24
Well, as a positive, I will say, it was at least a clean romance without any spicy scenes, which is a must that will make me put an otherwise good book down.
That being said, I also can’t honestly say this was a good book.
The main character’s only stable personality trait is “daddy issues.” Aside from that, she’s brilliantly intelligent and eloquent when the plot demands it, and incredibly, obtusely dense in many other moments for the same reason. Any principles or standards she has early on are gradually broken down, with completely absurd amounts of angsty introspection, for no real reason whatsoever. The flip-flopping that happens along the way is clearly meant to give conflict and angst, but only manages to make her look insanely mercurial.
The romantic interest almost manages to have a personality, but all of his decisions seem to come down to the stupidest moves he can make to draw out the “slow burn.”
There were actually some moments with side characters that had me hopeful for brief moments that there was some actual good writing and/or character dynamics to be had, but ultimately none of those actually panned out. The antagonist’s only reason for being antagonistic was explained away as “being sour” as a result of the RI’s being mean to her. No actual reconciliation occurs.
Overall, the plot was predictable, the characters and their motivations empty, and it has the overall tone of something that is desperately trying to offer commentary on the value of love in the style of pride and prejudice, but instead manages to completely miss not only the target, but the entire shooting range.
If you just want a totally stupid story to listen to, and get a few laughs along the way at how incredibly stupid the characters and their plot lines can manage to be, then listen away!

Great clean fantasy adventure
Revisado: 10-06-24
This book has all the basics I look for in a fantasy series.
Characters wrestling with their morality and ultimately choosing good, a magic system that is not occultish, clean romance without spiciness.
Highly recommend for children and adults who like such things!
