Historia
Alice Scott is an eternal optimist still dreaming of her big writing break. Hayden Anderson is a Pulitzer-prize winning human thundercloud. And they’re both on balmy Little Crescent Island for the same reason: To write the biography of a woman no one has seen in years—or at least to meet with the octogenarian who claims to be the Margaret Ives. Tragic heiress, former tabloid princess, and daughter of one of the most storied (and scandalous) families of the 20th Century.

Historia
Sadie Montgomery never saw what was coming . . . Literally! One minute she’s celebrating the biggest achievement of her life—placing as a finalist in the North American Portrait Society competition—the next she’s lying in a hospital bed diagnosed with a “probably temporary” condition known as face blindness. She can see, but every face she looks at is now a jumbled puzzle of disconnected features. Imagine trying to read a book upside down and in another language. This is Sadie’s new reality.

Simply Lovely
Revisado: 04-12-25
As the author note highlights, “predictability” is not a fault. This is a beautifully ironic and charming story, told with humor, and performed very well.

America's favorite pop band, Roman Holiday, is done, dead, and so totally last year. For eighteen-year-old rockoholic Junie Baltimore, this is music to her ears. But when she discovers their sexy ex-lead singer hiding out on the boardwalk, her summer vacation becomes the cover story of the year. She's willing to keep him a secret, but when a sleazy paparazzo offers her the cash she needs to save the bar her father left behind, could she sell out for the chance to save her future?

A testament to how much an author can improve
Revisado: 04-01-25
Love Poston’s recent work! This is from 2014, and pretty dreadful. The FMC is insufferable and kind of a pick-me, the metaphors and similes are overwritten rather than evocative, the plot is mostly silly, and the narration involves accents we didn’t need. I am amazed by how much Poston has grown since this was written.

Crushed beyond measure at the rejection of his proposal, Darcy struggles to explain both the facts and his feelings by letter to the only woman he will ever love. Can such a reticent man find the words to enable Elizabeth Bennet to know the man behind the mask? Will she read his carefully crafted epistle once he delivers it into her hand? Will he catch even a small glimmer of hope?

Surprisingly Disappointing
Revisado: 02-25-25
I like this author, but the obstacles thrown up here to delay the enemies-to-lovers resolution felt silly and forced. That said, the culmination of the last letter was lovely. Other characters felt very underdeveloped. I just couldn’t believe what a slog this - one of the shortest stories I’ve listened to - was. The narration was rough.

Historia
Divorce attorney RJ would never describe herself as romantic. But when she ends up officiating an unplanned wedding for a newly engaged couple in a park, her life is turned upside down. The video of the ceremony goes viral, and she finds herself in the unlikely position of being a sought-after local wedding officiant. Spending her free time overseeing “I dos” isn’t her most strategic career move, but she enjoys it, except for the type A dude-bro wedding planner she’s forced to work with.

Historia
What does one do when they completely blow an interview? If you're me, you pick up a one-night stand with the most gorgeous man you've ever seen.. That's right, after a lousy interview that could have changed everything for me, I headed over to the local small town bar to sulk when the one man I shouldn't want walked in. And when my friend convinced me to take him back to my hotel room, I didn't think about it, I just did it . . . well, I did him.

Was really hoping the Rowleys would eventually try therapy
Revisado: 01-26-25
Mac is brilliantly written and there are many very sweet and moving sibling moments. But I wish this entire family (and their partners!) would at least entertain therapy. There’s nothing unsexy about getting help. What Ryland says about himself at the beginning of his spiral is exactly right and all these women excusing violence in the guise of “protecting” is super toxic. The entire series celebrates controlling and domineering sexual behavior by the MMCs which, in the context of a family that has experienced abuse, did not feel playful but rather unexamined and deeply problematic. (What is the obsession with forbidding women from getting off on their own???)

Lizzie is too quick to forgive and there’s insufficient true amends made or understanding reached, but the themes are interesting. (The performer’s intake of breath is very audible.)

Get rid of AI
- De Janet LYDENS en 12-29-24
Terrible writing unaided by AI narration
Revisado: 12-01-24
It’s not just that the plotting is melodramatic or that the Bennets are largely nothing like they are in P&P - the writing is clunky and errs on the side of telling rather than showing. “He is generous,” “she loves books,” “she’s a book lover,” “have we mentioned she reads a lot?” There is zero chemistry between
Darcy and Elizabeth and I have no idea why they like each other. DNF, and that’s very unusual for me.

Historia
When Charlotte Lucas becomes the new Mrs. Bennet, taking charge of the household after her predecessor's untimely death, she guides the fates of the five Bennet sisters with a steady hand. Even Mr. Darcy can find little to criticise in the elegant family, and much to admire in the witty, clever Elizabeth. However, rumours and scandals brew when the charming but deceitful Mr. Wickham arrives in Meryton. Jealous Caroline Bingley fans the flames against the Bennets, but level-headed Charlotte manoeuvres each challenge with grace.

Historia
London, 1812. Oliver Bennet feels trapped. Not just by the endless corsets, petticoats and skirts he's forced to wear on a daily basis, but also by society's expectations. The world—and the vast majority of his family and friends—think Oliver is a girl named Elizabeth. He is therefore expected to mingle at balls wearing a pretty dress, entertain suitors regardless of his interest in them, and ultimately become someone's wife. But Oliver can't bear the thought of such a fate.
