Historia
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

Delightful & Encouraging
Revisado: 05-16-24
I love the author’s mind and how her thoughts moved sporadically through her story as she remembers how it all made her feel. She is reflective and at a point in her life where she can candidly connect the dots of encounters and experiences that led to some amazing highs and carefully learned and navigated lows. A story of life, a story of growth, a story of love, a story of family and a story of the face of grieve. A beautiful reflection of a beautiful life.

Clara Kelley is not who they think she is. She's not the experienced Irish maid who was hired to work in one of Pittsburgh's grandest households. She's a poor farmer's daughter with nowhere to go and nothing in her pockets. But the other woman with the same name has vanished, and pretending to be her just might get Clara some money to send back home.

The Perfect Blend
Revisado: 06-27-23
The perfect blend of history and fiction. Because of history the story was easy to follow yet suspenseful. I knew it could end one of two ways but the author kept me hopeful until the very end. Yet somehow there are lessons in character and compassion that abide and are not lost in the story. I liked that the story could easily flow through generations and genres.

My heart cried
Revisado: 02-28-23
Not an easy listen whether fictional or not. Sadly it is loosely based on the lives of two girls and many females across the country. It is a dark and sobering story whose characters ebb and flow with strife, hardship, family ties, courage and even a smite of hope and joy. I never got bored or restless but I did have to stop a few times to let the storyline sink in. I absolutely loved the realness of the characters and the research that went into this story.

Historia
The morning of January 12, 1888, was unusually mild, following a punishing cold spell. It was warm enough for the homesteaders of the Dakota Territory to venture out again and for their children to return to school without their heavy coats - leaving them unprepared when disaster struck. At the hour when most prairie schools were letting out for the day, a terrifying, fast-moving blizzard blew in without warning. Schoolteachers as young as 16 were suddenly faced with life-and-death decisions.

Colorful and Mesmerizing
Revisado: 10-12-20
I love the way Michael Beck narrated this book! I’m from MS and he was able to pick up on the diction quite well. As far as Grisham’s writing, great once again. We listened to it in one day while we were camping. The story is colorful and humanizing. It’s portrayed in a way that you would believe these characters to be real! Books can be pretty predictable after awhile but I was pleasantly surprise that it did not turn the one or two ways I suspected and nor did it end the way I expected. My husband liked it and he doesn’t listen to audiobooks unless he is somehow stuck with me for a trip with no internet connection.

Real Life
Revisado: 10-14-16
Sometimes life can be hard and we never know why. Kingsbury masterfully and gracefully pulls together the blessings and frayed edges of a family and presents them with hope and redemption. I enjoyed how the author kept her story real and allowed us to stumbled over the triumphs and trials of life with this family, leaving us reflecting on our own faith values, family and most importantly-Our King.

Compassion at its finest
Revisado: 05-01-16
On the surface, you are listening to a story about someone's life but underneath you will ponder the posing questions and circumstances for your own personal life. While this story, based on true facts, is a easy listen; the situations are troublesome and difficult to hear. The human compassion level in this book is amazing. I loved the true American grit and Grace shown in this story.

Historia
Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors--beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and nine-year-old Grace and her former addict mother, Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building's front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy's patio.

It's not always about you ...
Revisado: 04-14-16
Where does Don't Let Me Go rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This one ranks right in the middle of the genre I like to read from. A book with a message and a realistic look into the lives of others.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Don't Let Me Go?
When one of the characters allowed his care and concern for another out weigh that which was hindering him from living his life at its full potential. He was able to accomplish something he had not done in years. He achieved it by not focusing on the problem but on the need of another person.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Grace looked in the audience and saw her mother and all her neighbors.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Initially I thought -how sad? But then as you weave through the lives of each character and get to share in their journey together with each other, you get to see a family emerge with all its idiosyncrasies, unknowns, love and transparencies.
Any additional comments?
This is a beautiful tapestry that will be woven in front you as listen. It's life and they decided to challenge the status quote.

Fourteen-year-old Carey and six-year-old Jenessa have been living in the woods with their mother for as long as they can remember; the sheltering trees and a broken-down camper are all they know. But what they’ve never been told is that Carey vanished from the real world ten years ago, when their mother took her, causing an uproar in the media - and in her father’s life.

You Will Not Forget It!
Revisado: 04-05-16
Where does If You Find Me rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book ranks pretty well with me. It is an easy listen with a gripping story.
What did you like best about this story?
I like the way the author told the story through the eyes of the main character who is a teenager. As dark as it was, she kept it as clean and keeps it towards the surface as much as possible. It has the potential to be a much deeper book.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was when Nessa, the younger sister, called the dog's name over and over again after not speaking for months.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book does evoke emotion and pondering as you know that it is fiction and unfortunately true at the same time.
Any additional comments?
This is a good book with a good story that has the potential to go so much deeper. It will grip your heartstrings and make you lean in to it. It is mainly told through the eyes on a young teenager, Carey, who has been kidnapped by her mentally ill mother at the tender of four. Her mother moves them deep into the woods and she ends up having another daughter, Nessa, -a daughter Carey has raise. You will follow the girls as they are found and reintroduced to society and a father. Rather than getting bogged down in the dark and murky devastating details, Murdock chooses to stay on the surface of the story and move it along to resolve quickly without exposing to much of the dreadful drama to our minds. It is almost as if she is protecting girls. Although this is a fictional story, your mind knows that somewhere unfortunately this story is painfully true for someone.

Historia
In a remarkable true story of faith and blessings, a mother tells of her sickly young daughter, how she survived a dangerous accident, her visit to Heaven, and the inexplicable disappearance of the symptoms of her chronic disease. Annabel Beam spent most of her childhood in and out of hospitals with a rare and incurable digestive disorder that prevented her from ever living a normal, healthy life. One sunny day when she was able to go outside and play with her sisters, she fell three stories headfirst inside an old, hollowed-out tree...

As only a mother could
Revisado: 02-22-16
I love that this masterpiece is told by a mother actually walking through this tedious journey rather than by an author who has used his/her creative talents to create it. She doesn't tell the story of her journey start to finish rather, in a way of revealing her heart while God is using her, her daughter and all who are around them to reveal His Glory. I was in awe of all that took place on this journey and totally delighted that they chose to yield and share this beautiful picture of Grace and healing with us.
