Historia
The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Excellent Narration
Revisado: 04-26-25
A well loved story enhanced by an excellent narrator. Serkis not only brings his iconic Gollum back to life but he also animates and does right by the plethora of other characters.

Lori Took The Bait. She Visited A Genuine Haunted House at Halloween. What A Deadly Mistake. Lori was only mildly annoyed when sister Corey doesn’t show for their Halloween outing. Not to worry, Corey can be a bit flaky at times, and she and boyfriend Scott can still have fun, especially when the enigmatic Sam invites them to his very own genuine Haunted Mansion. Intrigued, and with no better offer for the evening, Lori and Scott accept Sam’s invitation. When they enter the house Lori is more than a little dubious about Sam’s claims, especially when she catches a glimpse of Corey. As ...

AI Voice is not very good.
Revisado: 03-29-25
Just hire a real person to do the book.
Characters are indistinguishable with the AI voice making the narrative incredibly difficult to follow.

Good suspense and many creepy sequences
Revisado: 11-20-24
Good story with alot of suspense with a few very creepy scenes. The atmosphere is very good and this is one of the fastest listens I have had in a while. The narration is also excellent.
The main character is a bit of a stiff though. The entire story is told from his first person account with internal monologs which is quite fine except when he is interacting with other characters. Despite being a priest he doesn't ever seem to know how to talk to people and puts his foot in his mouth at every turn or convinces himself that very strange things are very normal. Also some of the details regarding the WW2 backdrop don't make a ton of sense but they are small and peripheral.
Regardless the story is good and it was well played out!

Captivating

Hard to get through with all of the complex, duplicate, and similar names but once you're past that this is an excellent telling of the historical build up to, performance of, and aftermath of the second punic war.

Historia
In this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, historian Barbara Tuchman brings to life the people and events that led up to World War I. This was the last gasp of the Gilded Age, of Kings and Kaisers and Czars, of pointed or plumed hats, colored uniforms, and all the pomp and romance that went along with war. How quickly it all changed...and how horrible it became.

Thoroughly Enjoyed However...
Revisado: 04-24-24
I enjoyed this novelization of the classic story and was delighted about the interviews after. one question though. Why did you interview Orson Scott Card? He clearly doesn't care for the movie or even the genre. His interview was just him talking about how he didn't get it, didn't get why people like it, and didn't even bother yo watch it more than once.

Historia
Felix Allsey is a travel writer with a keen eye for the paranormal, and he's carved out a unique, if only slightly lucrative, niche for himself in nonfiction; he writes travelogues of the country's most haunted places, after haunting them himself. When he convinces the owner of the infamous Rotterdam Mansion to let him stay on the premises for two weeks, he believes he's finally found the location that will bring him a best seller. Then things start going wrong: screams from upstairs, figures in the thresholds, and more than what should be in any basement.

Historia
Vampires have always lived in Eastern Europe. But with the fall of the Soviet Union, they began to spread across the continent, then the world, turning whole populations into vampires - or human cattle. Having overrun India, the far East, and the great cities of North and South America, the forces of Night are now spreading into the countryside to consolidate their conquest.

Ok, had moments but really just ok.
Revisado: 12-01-23
It is hard to buy into the characters who, despite being faced with a literal vampire apocalypse, seem completely unwilling or unable to kill these very killable vampires. You have a golden chance to kill the things murdering people but instead decide to clean a church. The cowboys are just a bunch of lowlife normal people but somehow manage to maintain complete control during the day. I do not mind suspending my disbelief but it is so hard to buy into all of this timid trepidation about killing vampires or traitor humans that takes them forever to get into action that it is painful.
The nun is my favorite character because she is the only one taking action but even her constant internal monologs are irritating. Humans don't have any problem killing monsters, we never have. The only way this vampire invasion takes place as written would require a human population that is so passive that it is beyond the limits of suspension of disbelief.

Good but flawed
Revisado: 11-21-23
Enjoyable story but the ending is almost painful because of how slow and indecisive the characters are throughout the daylight hours. It almost seemed like King needed random things to delay the protagonists so that the confrontation could happen at Dusk for suspense.

Well constructed and impactful
Revisado: 11-16-23
I have never read a ghost story that made me so actively despise a ghost before. By the end of the story the hatred you feel towards the woman in black is palpable. For her selfish misplaced vengeance, for her torture of the living etc. I do not know how the main character did not finish the story by returning to the house just to set it ablaze and turn out the Graves. I do not know what vengeance you can seek against a ghost but the story makes you want to seek it against the spirit of the vile woman at its center. Very engaging read.
