Historia
Andrew Roberts' Napoleon is the first one-volume biography to take advantage of the recent publication of Napoleon's thirty-three thousand letters, which radically transform our understanding of his character and motivation. At last we see him as he was: protean multitasker, decisive, surprisingly willing to forgive his enemies and his errant wife Josephine.

The immense amount of research that must have gone into the book.
Revisado: 12-25-23
The narration was not to my liking. The narrator spoke too fast and too loud. He must be a native speaker of French and ability that enabled him to spew out the many French names so fast that the names were difficult for me to understand.

Historia
Black Bart is widely regarded today as not only the most notorious stage robber of the Old West but also the best behaved. Over his lifetime, Black Bart held up at least twenty-nine stagecoaches in California and Oregon with mild, polite commands, stealing from Wells Fargo and the US mail but never robbing a passenger. Such behavior earned him the title of a true “gentleman bandit.”

For me, this was a great story full of details that was nearly ruined by the performance of the narrator.

Historia
The liberation of Europe and the destruction of the Third Reich is a story of courage and enduring triumph, of calamity and miscalculation. In this first volume of the Liberation Trilogy, Rick Atkinson shows why no modern learner can understand the ultimate victory of the Allied powers without a grasp of the great drama that unfolded in North Africa in 1942 and 1943. That first year of the Allied war was a pivotal point in American history, the moment when the United States began to act like a great power.

Historia
In the opening volume of his acclaimed American Revolution series, Nathaniel Philbrick turns his keen eye to pre-Revolutionary Boston and the spark that ignited the American Revolution. In the aftermath of the Boston Tea Party and the violence at Lexington and Concord, the conflict escalated and skirmishes gave way to outright war in the Battle of Bunker Hill. It was the bloodiest conflict of the revolutionary war, and the point of no return for the rebellious colonists.

A great story with abundance of detail. Unfortunately, the reader’s voice was distracting and irritating to this listener. Others may not agree.

Historia
Keri Blakinger always lived life at full throttle. Growing up, that meant throwing herself into competitive figure skating with an all-consuming passion that led her to nationals. But when her skating career suddenly fell apart, that meant diving into self-destruction with the intensity she once saved for the ice. For the next nine years, Keri ricocheted from one dark place to the next: living on the streets, selling drugs and sex, and shooting up between classes all while trying to hold herself together enough to finish her degree at Cornell.

This is a great story detailing the fall of a youngster from a privileged background all the way to prison and back to a highly productive life as a nationally recognized writer. It’s a fantastic story greatly told.

Historia
On Christmas Eve, the holiest of nights for the many Christian peoples of Europe, Adolf Hitler was unleashing the full fury of his remaining Luftwaffe bomber force on Bastogne. For hundreds of German and American soldiers facing off in the siege, the events of Christmas 1944 would destroy any sense of holiness and peace on Earth. For the soldiers on both sides, and for the brave people of Bastogne, this would be no silent night.

Inside the outside perimeter of Bastogne
Revisado: 08-06-15
Marvelous detail on all the battle fronts around Bastogne Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 1944. This work relates how the action of a relatively few turned the tide Hitler's final push. Unfortunately, the impact of so many deaths of young men on both sides of the battle had a depressing effect on this writer.
Recommended as a valuable addition to all those with a special interest in detailed histories of the great battles of WWII.

Historia
One of the greatest examples of war journalism ever written, Michael Herr's clearheaded yet unsparing retellings of the day-to-day events in Vietnam take on the force of poetry, finding clarity in one of the most incomprehensible events in our modern era. A National Book Critics Circle finalist and highly acclaimed upon its first publication, Dispatches still retains its resonance as America finds itself amidst another military quagmire.

Takes Your Breath Away
Revisado: 03-18-15
This is the best book written on the Vietnam war. If you want something that will put you in the trenches of Khe Sanh, feel the impact of rounds striking your helicopter, put you on line with marines in Hue, then this is for you. If you have watched and appreciated Full Metal Jacket, this book will expand on that experience. Can't address how combat vets feel about this great narrative but it's as close to the real thing a lot of us wanta be's will ever experience. The narrator also did justice to the book.
