Groundbreaking for OCD
Revisado: 04-25-23
This is a groundbreaking book. I haven't found a lot of information about OCD written by people who understand it. Mark's books are different because he has extensive experience with mental health. His knowledge and wealth of experience are evident. His books break things down crystal clear and have led me to a lot of insights. He also presents clear guidance, realistic expectations and a plan of action. I can deeply relate to his story in this book and this book has insights about why recovery programs and therapies I tried in the past didn't work, and what to do instead. It's a book I will keep and revisit for years and I had to have both the print and the audible format. The narration is fantastic.

And excellent starting place
Revisado: 01-05-23
This is an excellent book and a great starting point for the work of Mark De Jesus. It's a quick read but it's very dense and presents many of the core concepts of the path to heart healing. The author is exceptional, he speaks from his own experience. It's self-help that proposes realistic paths to growth, using examples, questions, kindness, and honest enthusiasm. He is very astute in breaking down problems and describing the process of growth in a gentle and encouraging way. He doesn't dismiss people, he works hard to help people in their heart-healing journey. He is acutely aware of mental health issues and is trauma-informed in his teachings. I recommend this book and all the materials created by this author to anyone who was seeking to deepen their spiritual life or further their recovery. It's obvious this is based on solid research and vast amounts of personal experience, and good Christian doctorine. His works are infallible as an honest, comforting voice. His audiobooks and his youtube channel are excellent as his sincerity shines through in his voice and he's an excellent narrator. When I was stuck for years in my twelve steps, mental health, and Christian journey and had given up on healing, this was the author that could bring me hope.

Historia
Chronically low self-esteem seems to be one of the biggest reasons for people of all ages to be unable to reach their potential. No matter what advantages or disadvantages they are given in life, people who have a poor view of themselves tend to stay stuck and are unable to move forward with confidence. At its core, poor self-esteem is an issue of identity. Lack of self-confidence has less to do with your own abilities and talents than it has to do with how you see yourself and your own worth and value.

Just what I needed
Revisado: 09-20-20
something came up recently in my life that is an opportunity that I should view favorably and my low self-esteem and imposter syndrome kicked in immediately so I purchased this book to listen to while I walked my dogs. it was an excellent pick me up and I was feeling better immediately it's clear and concise, I'm an avid self-help reader and I've heard a lot of this advice before but it was well organized, well worded and an excellent summary for a quick boost of confidence.

The Recording is Cheesy But I Like it Anyway
Revisado: 07-26-19
This is a great book and I do not mind the recording, I almost didn't buy it seeing comments that some listeners didn't like the recording. It's a little cheesy, but this is also a book from a different era. I like the recording, It's expressive. It reminds me of sitcoms in the 80s and when life was simpler with a good announcer and a predictable laugh track. I am glad I bought this book anyway. I was AFRAID the recording would not be good, but I purchased the book ANYWAY. See what I did there?

My Favorite Social Anxiety Book I've Read So Far
Revisado: 07-26-17
Where does The Solution to Social Anxiety: Break Free from the Shyness That Holds You Back rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of my favorite self-help audiobooks and I have many.
What did you learn from The Solution to Social Anxiety: Break Free from the Shyness That Holds You Back that you would use in your daily life?
I felt the defining features, interworking principals and suggested solutions to social anxiety in this book easy to understand and digest. It has made me more aware of when I'm having social anxiety, what effects my avoidance has on my life and an attainable plan of practice to embark on to change it.
Any additional comments?
One thing that is really unique about this book is the tone and wording that the author uses. For some reason I was highly resistant to taking advice from books or a face-to-face therapist that involved facing my social anxiety fears. I felt really pushed to do things I was extremely uncomfortable with doing and had little belief that I could face the fears or improve as a result of facing them. Something in the tone of this book slipped under the radar of my fear and resistance without triggering my 'forget that!' or 'that wont work!' responses. Dr. Aziz is apparently the first author/therapist who offers advice that I can get on board with and consider trying to practice the techniques. My biggest problem with social anxiety was willingness to try. The humor, obvious experiential understanding of social anxiety expressed by the author and the lighter tone of this book that gently entices rather than pushes has helped me to improve my attitude. And believe me, I have pushed myself and been pushed over this fear to the point that I was NOT open to challenges. But I'm starting to reconsider... The more gradual approach and the sensitivity that being pushed too hard too fast is detrimental helped me understand why I am so resistant, planted a grain of trust and maybe I'll be willing to set a realistic expectation and take a small risk.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

My favorite self-help of all time
Revisado: 10-26-16
Would you listen to The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck again? Why?
Yes, it's insightful and hilarious.
What about Roger Wayne’s performance did you like?
He does a great job expressing the humor of this book.
Any additional comments?
This book gave me a badly needed laugh at life, I find myself getting caught off guard and cracking up because the humor is very clever. It also has as much if not more insight than most self-help books I've read, and I've read a lot. Great book to help depression and anxiety with a good laugh.
