The only praise I can give this book, without spoilers, is to say that there were multiple times that I was like, "Oh shit, here it comes!" only to check the app and realize that I still had several hours left! I was hooked on every freaking second! Easily Jim's best book!

Great stories, but some paid twice

The stories were great, like all of Jim's writing, but I can help but feel like I've paid for the Bigfoot trilogy and Cold Case (Molly novella from Shadowed Souls) twice, since they are also in this anthology. I will admit though, the day at the zoo was adorable.

Do NOT write this one off as a Shadowrun ripoff

I almost did, thinking, at first, that Ghosts and Magic was Shadowrun lite, but that faded with each passing chapter. It's its own screwed up, cyberpunk dystopia where magic just makes everything more and more complicated. I love the world, the plot, the life that Jeff Hays brings to the audiobook (seriously, the man has an insane range), and most of all, I love how Forbes wrote Conor; not as a rogue whose forced to become a hero, but as a man driven predominantly by his own fear -and a dash of revenge for flavor- and that he is still controlled by it even at the end. I really look forward to reading/listening to the rest of this series.
