Shocking yet illuminating

The atrocities of the Soviet Union against its own citizens are so horrible that one doesn’t even want to think about it. This book delves into the depths of human cruelty. Just as you’re thinking ‘why am I listening to this?’ the author tells the story of how the Soviet Union was miraculously defeated by Reagan & Thatcher. The history in this book is dark, but worth knowing, as most still aren’t truly aware of happened in Russia. These events have been historically propagandized and whitewashed, and are still to this day; partly because they’re too awful to think about, and partly because people don’t want to admit how psychotic the first large scale experiment in communism really was.

The pace of the authors reading lacks a comfortable rhythm. There seems to have been some sort of editing done, and it moves awkwardly and too fast. Regardless, this is still an excellent book.

Must listen for anyone interested in the relationship between mathematics, science and music

This audio book was fascinating and well-researched. In rich historical detail, the author dives into the science of music and tuning. The mathematical equations behind tuning are presented in an easy to understand way, with audio examples. The chapters about Johann Sebastian Bach were especially interesting. The author considers Bach more as the founder of a religion, and uses his music as part of sound therapy. I have not heard any serious discussion of using 432 Hz as concert pitch, nor of the fractal nature of music, nor of numerous other topics discussed in this work, anywhere else. It is a must listen for musicians and anyone else interested in the deeper meaning of music and sound.

The reading was fantastic. I only wish it were split up into segments ny chapter. As it is, the 50 chapters from the book are combined into 10 chapters for this audiobook. D
