Historia
René Descartes (1596-1650) has been commonly known as the "father of modern philosophy" who was also a mathematician and a scientist as the Scientific Revolution was breaking out in Europe. Descartes--a lifelong Roman Catholic educated by the Jesuit order, which in 1548 began its prestigious educational mission in Europe (well before the founding of the Protestant seminary known as Harvard)--nevertheless sought to overturn the traditional Aristotelian science taught by the Jesuits and other Catholic educators. With an obsessive focus on pursuing knowledge marked by certainty, Descartes, a ...

Kind of brief

Makes you want to learn something about what he taught. His writing style is sweeten, simple, but he doesn’t tell you much.

Historia
One of the two major philosophical traditions of the twentieth century was linguistic analysis, derived largely from Wittgenstein. The other, diametrically opposed, came from Heidegger, and its fundamental question was, "What is the meaning of existence?" For Heidegger, this question could not simply be "analyzed away". It was beyond the reach of logic or reason. It was the primary "given" of every individual life. To confront it, Heidegger needed to develop an entire new form of philosophy.

A waste of money.
Revisado: 11-11-22
It is more of a biography of Heidegger and I seriously doubt with the listener will understand what Heidegger was saying. I wish I could get my money back. $3.50 from

Dreamy

I listen to it at night as I go to sleep. The narrator has a soothing voice and the prose is poetic. Both educational and spiritually comforting.

Original sin is really bad parenting
Revisado: 09-29-11
I don't mean to be so hard on this book, but I used my free book credit to get it and I would have learned more from another. He seems to wish he were a psychologist rather than a priest. I would have wished that he had spent more time on other, older writers on contemplative prayer. This isn't really a book. It is a lecture he gave. I felt that his point that our desire for God, Augustine to the contrary, comes from a bad pregnancy rather than the calling of a lonely God for his wandering lambs.
