Historia
The Petrine verses (or Biblical passages referring to St. Peter, his role, and the office of the papacy) are perhaps the most controverted passages in the history of Christianity in the last 1, 000 years. This study of St. Peter’s role in the Bible puts to rest any doubts about the true sources for and meaning behind Jesus’s commission to St. Peter (Matthew 16:18), not to mention numerous other passages out of both the Old and New Testaments. Employing language accessible to an average reader, all historically debated passages about St. Peter and the papacy are unpacked so that their ...

Exceptionally Thorough!
Revisado: 07-28-24
This was perhaps the most complete and thorough book on the papacy I’ve ever read. I’ve been studying the papacy for a little over a year and I was blown away by how much I learned from this book. There was just so much that I had never heard of or even thought about before listening. William Albrecht and Fr. Christiaan Kappes are both top rate scholars and I cannot wait to read the other books they’ve written. I’ll also be ordering a hard copy of this book for future reference. It’s that good.

Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Historia
Of all things Catholic, there is nothing that is so familiar as the Mass. With its unchanging prayers, the Mass fits Catholics like their favorite clothes. Yet most Catholics sitting in the pews on Sundays fail to see the powerful supernatural drama that enfolds them. Pope John Paul II described the Mass as "Heaven on Earth," explaining that what "we celebrate on Earth is a mysterious participation in the heavenly liturgy."

I had never considered the Mass this way before listening to this book. It’s given me a much deeper appreciation for the Divine Liturgy. This is truly the highest form of worship.

Historia
In the New York Times best-seller Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, Drew Karpyshyn painted a gripping portrait of a young man’s journey from innocence to evil. That man was Darth Bane, a twisted genius whose iron will, fierce ambition, and strength in the dark side of the Force made him a natural leader among the Sith - until his radical embrace of an all-but-forgotten wisdom drove him to destroy his own order...and create it anew from the ashes.

Simply Excellent!!
Revisado: 01-29-23
The Darth Bane series might be my favorite of the entire expanded universe. All 3 books are excellent but Rule of Two stands out. Very well written with a good balance of action, politics, and dark side intrigue. The final battle is my favorite action sequence of the series and is the book of itself.

Historia
In Faces at the Bottom of the Well, civil rights activist and legal scholar Derrick Bell uses allegory and historical example to argue that racism is an integral and permanent part of American society. African American struggles for equality are doomed to fail so long as the majority of Whites do not see their own wellbeing threatened by the status quo. Bell calls on African Americans to face up to this unhappy truth and abandon a misplaced faith in inevitable progress.

Shockingly Racist
Revisado: 05-21-21
I actually have to commend the author for his honesty. He doesn’t even attempt to hide his overtly racist views. Ironically, he explicitly engages in the very racism he admonishes throughout the book, not only in his obvious contempt for whites, but worse in his disgustingly low regard for minority groups, particularly blacks. It’s clear that the author views whites as fundamentally and irredeemably racist, but in describing this bigoted and subjective opinion of his, he also paints blacks as perpetual subordinate victims incapable of overcoming adversity. Shameful. Among the themes found in this vapid and nihilistic book are a complete rejection of enlightenment philosophy, individual liberty, personal responsibility, rational critical thinking, equality of opportunity, legal neutrality, as well as the principles of free market capitalism. Clearly Marxist in his collectivist thinking and rationale, the author dismisses the many hard fought achievements of the civil rights movement, and openly calls for the abandonment of integration philosophy and traditional anti-discrimination law. At one point the author not only argues for a legalized form of discrimination, but actively promotes segregation. As disturbingly racist as this book is, I recommend that every American read it. I suspect that the more people who read up on the anti-enlightenment and racist philosophical underpinnings of Critical Race Theory, the more people will reject this poisonous Marxist pedagogy wholesale. Read this book, but also prepare for it’s bigoted concepts to infuriate you.

Dave Rubin launched his political talk show The Rubin Report in 2015 as a meeting ground for free thinkers who realize that partisan politics is a dead end. He hosts people he both agrees and disagrees with - including those who have been dismissed, deplatformed, and despised - taking on the most controversial issues of our day. As a result, he’s become a voice of reason in a time of madness. Now, Rubin gives you the tools you need to think for yourself in an age when tribal outrage is the only available alternative.

Fr. Robert Barron's comprehensive work goes straight to the core of the Catholic faith. He first examines the foundations of Christ's incarnation, life and ministry, and then works through the essentials of the Catholic tradition: from sacraments, worship and prayer, to Mary and the saints, and on to salvation, heaven and hell. Throughout this epic journey, Fr. Barron uses art, literature, personal stories, Scripture, theology, philosophy and history to present a complete picture of the Church to the world.

A must read for a Christian of any denomination
Revisado: 07-27-19
This book is a beautiful walk through Christian belief and thought. Bishop Barron has a breathtaking command of philosophy, literature, and theology. He is able to martial them all together with captivating clarity while simultaneously working in some absolutely beautiful imagery inspired by classical art, architecture, and poetry, all as he walks the listener through Christian faith from the sacraments to the saints. The modest reflections within leave the listener with profound thirst for the Living Water. You do not have to be a catholic to thoroughly enjoy this book.

Unfreedom of the Press is not just another book about the press. [Levin] shows how those entrusted with news reporting today are destroying freedom of the press from within - not through actions of government officials, but with its own abandonment of reportorial integrity and objective journalism. With the depth of historical background for which his books are renowned, Levin takes you on a journey through the early American patriot press, which proudly promoted the principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Revisado: 09-01-18
Obviously this book is a classic and world renowned for a reason. This can hardly be overstated. Dostoevsky is a literary genius. The performance of this particular reading however, is a masterpiece of itself. One of the best narrations of any book I’ve ever heard.
