Historia
As far as Jolene is concerned, her interactions with her colleagues should start and end with her official duties as an admin for Supershops, Inc. Unfortunately, her irritating, incompetent coworkers don’t seem to understand the importance of boundaries. Her secret to survival? She vents her grievances in petty email postscripts, then changes the text color to white so no one can see. That is until one of her secret messages is exposed. Her punishment: sensitivity training (led by the suspiciously friendly HR guy, Cliff) and rigorous email restrictions.

Great Performance
Revisado: 08-13-24
It was funny, but at times cringy. A good reminder we should all practice empathy and kindness without judgement. One never knows what a person is/has gone through.

Historia
Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

Not Just a Romance Book
Revisado: 04-16-24
There’s so much good stuff in here. Unless you are the rare bird without any psychological damage and do not know anyone with psychological damage, your relationships will benefit from the knowledge. Jemeniz manages to include this with humor and without taking away from the romance.

Daphne Bell believes the universe has a plan for her. Every time she meets a new man, she receives a slip of paper with his name and a number on it—the exact amount of time they will be together. The papers told her she’d spend three days with Martin in Paris; five weeks with Noah in San Francisco; and three months with Hugo, her ex-boyfriend turned best friend.

Serle’s characters are never perfect but they are always real and very lovable. ‘Expiration Dates’ characters are no different. Wonderfully human.

Historia
It’s fair to say that Maddie’s life in London is far from rewarding. With a mother who spends most of her time in Ghana (yet still somehow manages to be overbearing), Maddie is the primary caretaker for her father, who suffers from advanced stage Parkinson’s. At work, her boss is a nightmare and Maddie is tired of always being the only Black person in every meeting.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Respect
Revisado: 12-16-22
Wow! It takes a lot for a person to earn my respect, wow me with words, and tell a story that causes me to stop everything, and contemplate what I’m hearing. Mr. McConaughey achieved this with passion, raw wide-open honesty, and laugh out loud humor. His words and stories will stay with me forever. Dare I say, he has achieved “hero status”? Indeed! His book will now be required reading for my children. Thank you, Matthew.

But Ed has big problems of his own, and driving the dysfunctional family to the Math Olympiad feels like his first unselfish act in ages...maybe ever.

Historia
Vincent has a lovely life in many ways. At forty-four, she enjoys strolling the streets of Paris and teaching at the modern art museum; she has a vibrant group of friends; and she’s even caught the eye of a young, charismatic man named Loup. But Vincent is also in Paris to escape a painful betrayal: her husband, Cillian, has published a bestselling book divulging secrets about their marriage and his own past, hinting that when he was a teenager, he may have had a child with a young woman back in Dublin—before he moved to California and never returned.

Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Brilliant and Unforgettable
Revisado: 03-04-22
A story beautifully written with enough historical facts to ground it and enough human emotion to pull the reader in for every page. Towles’ characters become so real one feels as though they know them intimately. It is impossible to not love them, envy their friendships, and be amazed at their level of honor and devotion. I can only hope to remember the many gems of observations and pearls of wisdom scattered throughout. Thank you Amor Towles for writing and to Nicholas Guy Smith for the lovely Audible version.

A Great Book
Revisado: 02-03-21
Mr. Sohm has done an excellent job sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm about wine. He has done so in an approachable and entertaining way that makes listening and learning a true pleasure. Though his reading performance was well done, there were a few words I struggled to understand. If you enjoy wine and want to know more- this is one of the best books I’ve found.
