Historia
No one’s more surprised than Leigh when a prestigious MFA program in North Carolina accepts her. A former sorority girl, Leigh’s the first to admit she knows more about the lyrics of Taylor Swift than T.S. Eliot, and she’s never been able to shake the “all-style-no-substance” feedback her high school crush made in their poetry workshop. Leigh's insecurities become all too real when Will, that same high school crush-turned-nemesis, shows up at orientation. And now, he’s William, exactly the kind of writer Leigh hates, complete with his pretentious sweater vests and tattered Moleskine

Is this real life?
Revisado: 03-22-25
The weakness of this book is that it’s wayyy too realistic. The main character is a paradigmatic MFA student: upper middle class, good looking, self-absorbed, angsty. At age 26, her deepest source of suffering is that her 60 year old parents are getting divorced… lmao. Yes, really.
Anyways, the book is well written, the psychology of the characters rings true, and the MC’s are appropriately dense.
The author is talented, even if reading about Leigh and Will is a chore. The book would have been better if the conflict were grounded in something besides insecurity and delusion. That’s far too much like real life.

Historia
Lucie Redway knows one thing for certain: her best friend will have the most perfect destination wedding. She may not know if she’ll still have her agony aunt column next month, or if her love life will ever be more exciting than a midnight swipe right, but Lucie would rather exhaust herself than let Stacey down on her Big Day. Not even Charlie, the insufferably attractive and hateful best man, can get in her way. Before the flight touches down in Spain, Lucie is hit with a curveball. Sat next to world-famous psychic Miranda Bloom, she’s told she’ll leave the wedding with the love of her life.

The conceit is silly but the execution is worse
Revisado: 03-22-25
Beautiful people fall in love because of how beautiful they are (as we are told, repeatedly). However, because they are also dense and incapable of basic human communication, they spend a novel's length of time "hating" each other.

Historia
Emily Ackerman has traveled the world, her constant compass and companion a book of letters her mother left for her when she died. But when professional failure leads Emily back to Nantucket to renovate and sell the family cottage she inherited, she wonders if her mom left advice to cover this...especially when her grandmother arrives to "supervise." And especially when her heart becomes entangled with Hollis McGuire, the boy next door-turned-baseball star who's back on the island after a career-ending injury.

Otherwise not bad. Abrahamic cultism aside, the story is realistic and sweet, if a bit boring.

Historia
When Grace Emerson's ex-fiancé starts dating her younger sister, extreme measures are called for. To keep everyone from obsessing about her love life, Grace announces that she's seeing someone. Someone wonderful. Someone handsome. Someone completely made up. Who is this Mr. Right? Someone - exactly unlike her renegade neighbor, Callahan O'Shea. Well, someone with his looks, maybe. His hot body. His knife-sharp sense of humor. His smarts and big heart.

What the heck did I just read?
Revisado: 03-07-25
The MC’s hobby is civil war reenactment, which is right up there with taxidermy and a raw meat diet as one of the dumbest, most irremediable pastimes. Not once does she broach the subject of slavery while discussing “states rights” (to own slaves?) and waxing poetic about the confederate slavers willing to die to own slaves.
Also, her fiancée leaves her for her sister and somehow everyone is okay with this arrangement. She talks about how her fiancée fell in “love at first sight” with her sister, which is just ridiculous. Only someone living in a tiny hick town would think that this is how love works. “Their eyes met, and they fell in love without exchanging so much as a word.” LMAO. Imagine having such a low IQ that you don’t need to converse with your soulmate before being absolutely certain of their identity.

Historia
Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It's somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn, but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour. So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn't fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she's kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She's given up hope of seeing him ever again.

Slow burn romance with no angst or heartbreak. Feels like a Meg Ryan movie from the 90’s. Happy, fun, a little cheesy. Cute vibes.

Historia
Juliet Bianchi has evolved from a lowly scrap cutter to a fully-loaded, combat-ready dark side operator. Known as "Lucky," she takes high-risk jobs for high-tech upgrades (you know, like weaponry, super reflexes, mind reading, etc.) that make her nearly invulnerable. Juliet is looking forward to some downtime to recover, recoup, and reunite with her mates from the space salvage trawler Kowashi. But after a while, she gets that old itch she can never quite seem to scratch: to infiltrate, and hopefully subvert, the all-powerful WBD megacorporation that created the AI that changed her life.
