Historia
Author of three books, this is by far his best. Lee puts you in the cockpit in a riveting account of life as a fighter pilot at the front. At times humorous and dramatic, this thoughtful, enlightening, true account is a classic to be ranked with Winged Victory by W. V. Yeates, also published by Grub Street.

Historia
When Muslim fundamentalists blow up a key Soviet oil complex, making an already critical oil shortage calamitous, the Russians figure they are going to have to take things into their own hands. They plan to seize the Persian Gulf, and more ambitiously, to neutralize NATO. Thus begins Red Storm, an audacious gamble that uses diplomatic maneuver to cloak a crash military build-up.

I enjoyed every minute
Revisado: 11-02-21
granted the story is very long but do not let that deter you. This book is many stories all interwoven. the detail in every branch setting up or effecting the next. both sides are given fair voices. readers get to love through each character and it ties you emotionally to the survival of both sides of a single war. wanting both sides to both win and lose is the true nature of War presented in this book.

Historia
World War II had been raging for nearly a year. Hitler was now planning an invasion of England to seal Europe's fate. Though the United States was still neutral, a few Americans decided they couldn't remain on the sidelines. They joined Britain's Royal Air Force - with the future of civilization hanging in the balance. The Few tells the dramatic story of these Americans who defied their own country's neutrality laws and risked their very citizenship to fight side-by-side with England's finest pilots.

I'm so glad I bought this book
Revisado: 03-20-21
recently I've spent a lot of time catching up on historical Aviation audio books that I've been wanting to listen to for many years. This one was not on my watchlist previously after finding it at a used book sale from a library I picked it up undecided to listen to it as well as reference the paperback. I'm so very glad that I did. not the most riveting of the books I have read but definitely the one I knew the least about and learn the most from. I would have to leave listen to this again and I will tell my friends who are also Aviation fans to give it a read or listen to.

loved it, and made for quick listening.
Revisado: 08-01-19
I can't believe I waited this long to listen to or read Animal Farm. I cannot stress enough but every person from every nation should read this book in their native language. I listen to this in a single day on a single road trip, and when I stopped for gas or food I couldn't wait to start to drive again to hear more.

Historia
Few perspectives epitomize the sheer drama and sacrifice of combat more perfectly than those of the fighter pilots of World War II. As romanticized as any soldier in history, the World War II fighter pilot was viewed as larger than life: a dashing soul waging war amongst the clouds. In the 65-plus years since the Allied victory, stories of these pilots' heroics have never been in short supply. But what about their adversaries - the highly skilled German aviators who pushed the Allies to the very brink of defeat?

fantastic insights
Revisado: 05-25-19
with a multiple stories from different individuals sometimes even the same event from another point of view give this book something very unique. to hear the stories take the words of those who lived it gives it very special meaning and I love the touch that it's like sitting down and watching a TED Talk from these Pilots. At the end they even give opinions recommendations and inspiration to the Young Generation. I will reread or in this case listen to this book and I will try to find it in hardcover to look for the accompanying photos.

I love this audio book and could not stop listening. Truly inspirational these men were. I found the book at my local library as well I discovered that it was full of photographs. I recommend checking it out from your local library I'm taking a look as well because it really helps put faces to the names.
I must say I'm guilty of not knowing enough about Eddie Rickenbacker and after hearing this story my respect for him is exponentially greater. what an amazing life - one I would rather not experience my self, haha.

Historia
The autobiography of one of the greatest pilots in history. In 1939 Eric Brown was on a University of Edinburgh exchange course in Germany, and the first he knew of the war was when the Gestapo came to arrest him. They released him, not realising he was a pilot in the RAF volunteer reserve - and the rest is history. Eric Brown joined the Fleet Air Arm and went on to be the greatest test pilot in history, flying more different aircraft types than anyone else.

a delight to listen
Revisado: 01-23-18
I'm sure my love and passion for Aviation influences my opinion on this book however one cannot deny the fact that this man LED an incredible Life by any measure. he's like a real life Forrest Gump in who he has met and what he has influenced. I like this book so much that I bought the paper version as well.
I found if anything this book could have gone even deeper into detail on many topics and it would have been enjoy the same.
like nearly every book I listen to I did find I was comfortable listening at 1.2 speed. at those slightly increase speeds nearly all the books I've listened to sound more like conversation versus a lecture.
