Writer Ben Mears has returned to his hometown of Jerusalem's Lot with the hope that moving into a delapidated mansion, long the subject of town lore, might help him get a handle on his life and provide inspiration for a new book. Don't Let The Movie Stop You From Reading
Revisado: 03-10-22
I've just gone through this book a second time after staring my initial journey through the Dark Tower over two years ago. I suddenly got the itch to go through the tower again and this is a necessary read, I feel.
It helps a lot that it's also been my favorite King book so far.
It lovingly takes a lot of classic tropes and presents them in King's classic style. The narration is perfect and there are times that a line will give me chills or I'll have to go back and listen to it a couple of times just for the appreciation of it.

Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

Second Time Through The Tower
Revisado: 01-28-22
In my family there are a lot of readers and quite a few count themselves as King fans. I'm younger and started reading King much later, but when I decided to start his DT series, I decided to go all in. I found a good guide online to help me read any books that run parallel or short stories to help me understand it better. It took me over a year to get all the way through and I don't regret it for a moment.
I've waited about three years since I originally finished the series and I finally began it again. I'm so taken aback by this book and only love it all the more. It's amazing to remember how confused I used to be and how abstract the start felt. It's a labor of love to get into DT, but if you are a King fan, you absolutely must.

Historia
Amid rising gang violence, the crack epidemic, and police brutality, a group of unlikely voices cut through the chaos of late 1980s Los Angeles: N.W.A. Led by a drug dealer, a glammed-up producer, and a high school kid, N.W.A. gave voice to disenfranchised African Americans across the country. And they quickly redefined pop culture across the world. Their names remain as popular as ever: Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube. Dre soon joined forces with Suge Knight to create the combustible Death Row Records.

Great way to learn gangsta rap history
Revisado: 02-25-20
The audiobook is wonderfully long and so informative. I highly recommend listening to the book while you can also listen to songs and albums that are being talked about. The story felt very interactive this way.
There is a lot to be talked about in the timeline, so expect a lot of back and forth in the years. Generally, the story moves forward as you get the full picture painted for you of these men's lives, histories, and struggles.

Good to finally get this on Audible
Revisado: 02-12-20
When the title released on Audible in October, I quickly re-listened to the Half Orcs series to refresh my memory of all that had happened. This book takes place 5 years after the end of Sliver of Redemption and keeps Dalglish's quick pace. The story flows easily and new characters introduced don't feel out of place in the series.
I was extremely saddened by the narrator. It seemed as if there was no pre-reading done before recording and there were multiple problems across the entire audiobook. It may have been enough to get me to return the purchase and just read the book instead, however the story was too enthralling to put it off. The volume control would be all over the place and on occasion the mic would be bumped and deliver a frightful jump with how loudly I had to turn my volume up to hear sometimes. Pretty early on, it seemed like the poor guy caught a case of the sniffles and kept it to the end.
There are some good qualities to the narration and with training and proper equipment, he could improve his skills.

Historia
Reverse Transmission is a darkly comedic story that combines elements of science fiction and dystopian thrillers, centering on a murder spree involving a self-driving car. Jay, a starving artist, gets the only day job she’s qualified for: “driver” of a self-driving car at the rideshare company Awooga. The job turns from hilariously awkward to intensely frightening when the car runs over a pedestrian and manipulates Jay into disposing the body.

It's hard to find the ARG without someone guiding.
Revisado: 12-17-19
There is so much more to this Audible Original that doesn't get a chance to be spotted. People will be directed here by outside influences due to the ARG nature of the deeper stories that are hardly detectable along the path of the story.
As a stand alone tale, the first 2/3rds of the audio book is pretty intriguing and keeps you on your toes, but I find the final 1/3rd to be lacking. In the final stretch, I distinctly feel like I must have missed something and the ending leaves me extremely lost. There are some parts that I needed to listen to over again before I understood.
It did serve very well to gain my interest in the ARG, and I look forward to see what this leads to.

Revisado: 12-10-19
This book is split into two parts. The first introduces characters that readers of Dalglish's works will recognize and builds up to the tensions of the first two books on the series. The second part is the meat of the story and sets into motion events in the later books.
Dalglish's quick pace continues and keeps you turning the pages. By the time the book ends, you will want the next book lined up so you can charge straight into it.

Repeat Listening
Revisado: 12-05-19
If the Half Orcs series is the first works of Dalglish you have read, then it flows along quick and entertaining. This second installment of Half Orcs focuses on the two paths the brothers take and builds up what is to come in the following books.
If you come into this book after reading the Shadowdance series, you are in for a rougher ride. You can tell that this is one of Dalglish's earlier works and there can be times where it leaves something to be desired.
"The Cost of Betrayal" is a quick paced, dark fantasy that drives forward the story and timeline of this world. It is important to remember that while the tone can be very morbid at times, it is to build into what comes in later books.
I always enjoy C.J. McAllister's performance, especially in his dialogs where it can be easily followed who is speaking.

This is where it started for me!
Revisado: 11-09-19
I found David Dalglish on accident and started with this novel as my first. His style is quick paced and the story moves quickly as you get thrown into a world as if the reader is familiar. It's not difficult to follow and soon enough, things do get familiar.
I'm writing a review now that I have finished reading all of his books here so far, and coming right out of "Dance of Chaos" into the first line of this book was exhilarating.
There are a lot of books to go through, but the pay-off was incredible. I started with Half-Orcs and then went to the World Breaker series. After that, Paladins, and then Shadowdance. I've also gotten my friends to get into it and we've all read in different orders and it's exciting to see the different ways we each reacted to these separate, but interlocked characters.
Half-Orcs can be a lot to go through for the first time, but I think if you like it enough, keep going to Dalglish's other books!
Additionally, this is actually my favorite narrator across all the books and I was sad to never see him come back. It's something to be extra excited about in my second listen.
This book serves as the background to the characters you meet in this series and helps to expand upon familiar characters to Dalglish's other books. It's a dark tale of redemption that has to start somewhere.

Historia
In the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, the ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember. Adara could not remember the first time she had seen the ice dragon. It seemed that it had always been in her life, glimpsed from afar as she played in the frigid snow long after the other children had fled the cold.
