Cool writing, plot hole issues
Revisado: 10-05-24
The writer is great of course, but it lost me on plot holes, beating a dead horse parts, and some big "killer too perfect" issues. If you like that, it's a five star. The writers descriptive talent and tempo was very good. I got disingaged several times, probably won't pursue any other of his books. Just my opinion, obviously not the general opinion.

A Great Classic Cozy read by a new AI Tech
Revisado: 02-01-24
When you read this review you'll notice that the quality of the book and the reading voice (narrator) are separate in my mind. As for cozy mysteries, this delivers in every sense of the word. Wonderful and lovable characters, tickles of romance, delightful co-detectives of the fury type, enchanting scenes, and of course--a murder.
As for the virtual voice, it was pretty good considering we're at the beginning edge of this technology. It's not perfect. It doesn't replace a highly paid actor reader that costs $4-12k, but it doesn't need to. It does exceed any other text-to-speech app, providing apt voice inflections, pauses, and dynamic tones.
Does it subtract from your experience, not in my opinion. Like when you read a book from pages, your brain starts to fill in and get used to the virtual voice and I had an outstanding experience. If you were to listen to the book with the expectation of a Hollywood-quality actor/reader, you would be disappointed.
I guess the true test would be to ask... would I run and buy book two to listen to, if it were available right now? The answer would be an enthusiastic YES. I loved the characters the author created, and the book flowed with ease. I look forward to all the future adventures of Dickens & Christie and hope they are released in quick succession.
(By the way, I listen to a ton of audiobooks, so I am experienced with the media form.)

For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite... Too dark
Revisado: 12-17-23
I don't like a lot of subtle anti-religious quotes and the dark nature of the story. Wasn't for me and not comfortable having grandkids read it.

Historia
For Milo, everything’s a bore. When a tollbooth mysteriously appears in his room, he drives through only because he’s got nothing better to do. But on the other side, things seem different. Milo visits the Island of Conclusions (you get there by jumping), learns about time from a ticking watchdog named Tock, and even embarks on a quest to rescue Rhyme and Reason. Somewhere along the way, Milo realizes something astonishing. Life is far from dull. In fact, it’s exciting beyond his wildest dreams.

Must have "been" a classic.
Revisado: 01-20-20
Struggled to listen. By chap 6 I couldn't handle the torture. The writing style is cute enough, and the narrator is delightful, but the story is as exciting as watching rain fall on a grey plate.
Thought this was a classic. Unfortunately, I found it to be classically boring; missing the point that a story for kids should be fun and entertaining to children.

Historia
I'm an Eagle, Not a Field Chick features a "family" of farm characters. Nissi, The Dove (represents G-d). Raised by a hen and rooster (denoting parents). The snake symbolizes Satan, the accuser and ridiculer. The characters symbolize "people" we all encounter in life. You know, those ol' turkeys, jackasses, or wolves in sheep clothing. The barnyard signifies a "cosmopolitan and diverse" suburb. Goldie heads up the mountain on foot, demonstrating how we often take the long, hard way to get to where we need to go. Her "baggage" denotes just that - baggage we all carry around.

A remarkable gem.
Revisado: 04-07-19
The story resonated with me because I have felt that feeling of not fitting in. So many voices telling you who you should be and what you're doing wrong. I never have fit in and I was always told to do the safe thing instead of the dreams in my head.
This story inspires us all to listen to the spirit and follow that call to greater things. It teaches us to ignore the doubting voices and stretch your wings.
Great performance by the reader. You'll enjoy the whole journey.

Intriguing, but sparce.
Revisado: 04-16-18
One positive thing about this book is that you don't have to struggle to finish this book, it's very short. although there is good information in this book, it feels more like a webinar then a book about how to get reviews. The long introduction and social proof given leaves you wanting the real meat of the process, which you find is only in his online course. So the book is more like an advertisement for another product than it is a how to book or a DIY.
