"An undeniably seaworthy tale for military-action buffs...fortunately, Ingram has much of WWII yet to serve." —Booklist Four Japanese bombers dive out of the clouds. Their target is the USS Maxwell. As the ship is rocked by massive explosions, Commander Todd Ingram is thrown overboard...where he watches in horror as his embattled ship leaves him behind. Clinging to a floating piece of lifeboat in rough seas, he barely survives the night. A submarine surfaces nearby, and his joy turns to horror when he recognizes it as a Japanese U-boat. Second time still bad
Revisado: 04-01-24
Once again a great story is destroyed in the the audible telling of the book. the previous book which involved the shoot down of Yam amigo was bad enough. I rated it poorly based only on the virtual narrator. when I saw that the Neptune Strategy was available I bought it only to be disappointed again by the very poor virtual narration. this will be the last john go bell for me.

Greyhound?
Revisado: 09-29-23
This author is so spectacular that this should be a must read for WWII fictional history readers. I believe it was the basic story for the Sony Pictures movies "Greyhound" that came out during the pandemic.

Historia
the end of The Winter King Arthur fought the battle that forces unity on the warring British kingdoms and now he sets out to face the real enemy—the English (it is one of the great ironies of the Arthur stories that he should have become an English hero when, if he existed at all, he was a great war-leader who opposed the invading Sais). First, though, Merlin leads a perilous expedition into the mysterious west to retrieve a cauldron, one of the treasures of Britain.

Great listen
Revisado: 03-25-13
Where does Enemy of God rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have read and listened to all of the Bernard Cornwell books that I can lay my hands on. I wasn't really into the King Arthur/ Camalot thing so I thought that listening to the audio version would be a good experience. It was different and much more entertaining than I expected. Cornwell is fantastic.
What other book might you compare Enemy of God to and why?
Start with the Winter King, read Enemy of God and finish with Excalibur.
Have you listened to any of Tim Pigott-Smith’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
All of the Warlord series and Heretic that I know of.
Who was the most memorable character of Enemy of God and why?
Durville
Any additional comments?
Much better that I expected.

Historia
On October 25, 1944, the Samuel B. Roberts and 12 other vessels stood between Japan’s largest battleship force ever and MacArthur’s transports inside Leyte Gulf. Facing more than 20 Japanese vessels - including the 70,000-ton Yamato - the 1,200-ton Samuel B. Roberts turned immediately to action, churning straight at the enemy in a near-suicidal attempt to deflect the more potent foe and buy time for MacArthur’s forces.

From one of our finest military historians comes a monumental work that shows us at once the truly global reach of World War II and its deeply personal consequences. Remarkably informed and wide-ranging, Inferno is both elegantly written and cogently argued. Above all, it is a new and essential understanding of one of the greatest and bloodiest events of the 20th century.

Historia
On the first Sunday in December 1941, an armada of Japanese warplanes appeared suddenly over Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and devastated the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Six months later, in a sea fight north of the tiny atoll of Midway, four Japanese aircraft carriers were sent into the abyss. Pacific Crucible tells the epic tale of these first searing months of the Pacific war, when the U.S. Navy shook off the worst defeat in American military history and seized the strategic initiative.

Pretty good
Revisado: 03-05-12
Where does Jester's Fortune rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is the eighth book in the series which is very entertaining. Unfortunately the next book is not available in audio formate. The one after that is in audio but its hit and miss from then on. I did read the entire series and I am currently reading the latest book on my kindle. I should say that most of these I read several years ago. As far as ranking I can't decide. It's like one continuous story. Some exciting times, some not so much, but fun and entertaining.
What other book might you compare Jester's Fortune to and why?
The entire Dewey Lambdin series.
Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Just the other Lambdin books. He is excellent.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Not for kids.

Historia
It is 1781, and the British-held American port of Yorktown on the Chesapeake Bay is under siege. Pounded by the American colonists on land and the deadly warships of their French allies at sea, the once proud city is in flames and near ruin. But on the horizon, the King's own fleet of heavily armed frigates heads full sail to blast through France's blockade. Aboard His Majesty's swift flagship DESPERATE, midshipman Alan Lewrie quickly sets his gunners to their lethal work, firing rapid broadsides of 24 pound shot at the enemy vessels.

Book number three is just as good as the first two
Revisado: 01-23-12
Would you consider the audio edition of The King's Commission to be better than the print version?
I had read this book about seven years ago while recovering from surgery. I read everything in the series that I could buy at the B & N store down the street and around the corner. I ordered all the books they didn't have from someplace else (don't remember). So much has changed in the years since then.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters that come and go are well developed. The action is well discribed.
Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?
No favorite.
