This was a lovely book, I would definitely read again! Chocolate is off limits for me and this book made my mouth water!
The complex family story, and secrets, make it all the more intriguing!
There's romance, hidden family secrets and lots of chocolate! But more than that, it's also a book you will have a hard time turning off!
I thoroughly enjoyed this title set right after the war. I would recommend it to ANYONE, the whole family can enjoy it, as there is no questionable language or situations. The story will take you to another place and time. Take a journey from Italy to the Andes!
I will be seeking other titles from this author! And, as always, Erin Bennett gives a wonderful narration!

Not exactly a "cozy"
Revisado: 06-10-21
This book had an interesting premise, not your usual cut out cozy. BUT it also had language that should NEVER be in a cozy novel! The reason I read cozys in the first place, is because there are no curse words. This book not only uses bad language, it does take the Lord's name in vain. It does nothing to add to the books plot, or storyline, and I have no idea why some cozy writers do it! I've been fooled by Ellery Adams too. Although not with every book!
So my message is to ALL the writers of cozy novels, QUIT DOING IT, PLEASE!
I wouldn't recommend this book, or this author to anyone else that bothers!

Young German women are expected to do their duty - working for the Reich or marrying to produce strong, healthy children. After an interview with the civil service, Magda is assigned to the Berghof, Hitler's mountain retreat. Only after weeks of training does she learn her assignment: she will be one of several young women tasting the Führer's food, offering herself in sacrifice to keep him from being poisoned.

Good historical fiction!
Revisado: 05-26-21
Historical fiction genre is new to me. I enjoyed this story VERY much! It's from the height of WW2 during Hitlers reign. Hitler had many 'tasters' , because of his paranoia (justifiably so) and this story is told from one taster, and her point of view. The story has some very tense moments and lots of intrigue to go around for anyone.
My suggestion would be to give this one a try, if you have any interest in historical fiction, you're sure to enjoy! There is no foul language, some violence, but not anything over the top or anything even teens wouldn't be able to listen to.
The narrator, Carol Monda, did an excellent job! I had never heard her as a narrator on any other book, but wouldn't hesitate to listen to her again. I will also be looking for more titles by V. S. Alexander!
HIGHLY recommend this title! :)

A change in language!
Revisado: 03-18-20
I have praised Will Thomas for writing listener friendly, for those of us with sensitive ears, books. That's all changed with this book! This book has introduced Cyrus Barkers brother, who doesn't live by the same rules. He's a westernized cowboy who doesn't have the same etiquette and tact as the crew I've come to know and love! Mr. Thomas has chosen to give him language that I return books for!
Shame on you Will Thomas for changing things up in the latter part of your written series!! Now I will have to decide if I'll go on with the rest of the series! Please consider how your listeners feel, not only did you introduce swearing, but the most egregious words possible, IMHO

Revisado: 03-01-20
Will Thomas has become my favorite go to writer! I very much enjoyed this audio book! He writes complex mysteries and creates laugh out loud scenarios, which, by the way, could not be nearly as good without Antony Ferguson as his narrator!!
Please keep them coming Mr Thomas!!
These novels are crazy good, I don't care what anyone else thinks😉

This is a compilation of articles and sermons given in the 1890s by Jones and Waggoner on righteousness by faith. A popular best seller for years, this is one of the finest books on victorious Christian living available. It gives the "how-to" of overcoming, and explains many hard-to-understand passages in the Book of Galatians. Find out firsthand what the 1888 message really is!

would benefit if another narrator read this book though, I thought he sounded like a game show announcer, sorry

Very interesting
Revisado: 01-15-20
This book was interesting in that, for me brought that time of uncertainty back to mind, because I lived in Virginia when all of it happened. I learned things that were not brought to light in the news, but would've liked a little more depth to the story. especially when it came to the people affected by the shootings.
We can never bring those poor souls back, but may it never be, we forget!

Historia
At the request of Her Majesty's government, private enquiry agent Cyrus Barker agrees to take on his least favorite kind of assignment - he's to provide security for a secret conference with the French government. But shortly after the parties land at the island, Lord Hargrave is killed by a sniper shot, and the French ambassador's head of security is found stabbed to death. The only means of egress from the island - a boat - has been sent away, and the means of signaling for help has been destroyed.

This is my favorite series!!
Revisado: 01-06-20
This book is one of the best in the series so far, looking forward to the next one! Anthony Ferguson is the perfect narrator for the Barker Llewellyn stories!
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Our duo has been hired to protect a family on an island, and the mystery itself is a very good one, with a couple of twists here and there.
Two thumbs up from me!

Historia
When an Italian assassin's body is found floating in a barrel in Victorian London's East End, enquiry agent Cyrus Barker and his assistant Thomas Llewelyn are called in to investigate. Soon corpses begin to appear all over London, each accompanied by a Mafia Black Hand note. As Barker and Llewelyn dig deeper, they become entangled in the vendettas of rival Italian syndicates - and it is no longer clear who is a friend or foe.

Favorite series!!!
Revisado: 08-15-19
This series is awesome! I have enjoyed every book so far. Each book could be a stand alone, but you would be doing a great disservice to yourself not to start at the beginning of the series, because it's so fun getting to know this pair of private inquiry agents! Each book has laugh out loud moments, Mr. Llewellyn makes sure of that, with his dry sense of humor! The narrator is perfect for this series as well. This book is also free from any objectionable content, which I enjoy (the previous one had a little more slang than I like) but don't let that deter you from listening
This book deals with the Sicilian mafia. It is also rich in historical period content. This is one of the shorter books in the series, but even so, it's still fast paced and I didn't want it to end.
PLEASE DON'T STOP WRITING THESE TERRIFIC BOOKS WILL THOMAS!!!
These books come with the HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!
