I have read a book or two in this series already, so it was nice to read this one, which introduces all the characters and explains the book club in detail. Paige and her aunt have inherited a small inn from Paige’s great grandmother. In the basement is a large library with bundles of books, all cozy mysteries. When the book club makes their selection, they are all magically transported into the book, and they become characters. Once they have solved the mystery in their book, they return home. Nice concept and pleasant characters.

I feel I’m in safe hands when I read a Dean Koontz novel. He is a master at creating characters the reader falls in love with and gifting them with found families (and usually some wonderful pets), allowing them to weather the awful things Mr. Koontz has dreamed up to challenge them. Benny is a successful real estate agent who is abruptly fired one morning, then goes home to find his kitchen trashed. While recovering from that shock, his girlfriend stops by and, just as abruptly as his boss, dumps him. Meanwhile, he’s received an inheritance from a relative he never knew. The story becomes fantastic from there, as his inheritance is a guardian being who has been assigned to Benny because Benny is a truly nice person. Truly nice people need protection because a number of powerful people believe the world is better off if everyone is either ruthless or cowed into nonentity. Anyway, Mr. Koontz won’t allow such people to prevail, so it all works out in the end for Benny and his found family. I like this book.

The narrator was AI, and for the most part was fine, but there were some changers, mainly with inflection. The story is about a special book club who are privy to a magical library. When they choose a book from this library, thru enter the world of the book, and they are tasked with solving a murder mystery. They will return to their home when the mystery is solved. This murder took place on a cruise ship, and the club members got to enjoy all the luxuries, special excursions, etc., offered to the cruisers. Entering a mystery book is a fun notion, and I may read another book or two in this series.

I’m very fond of this series about a remote settlement in the Alaskan wilderness. This is the most plot-driven and gripping entry of the series.

Jen is horrified to witness her lovely bookish son, Todd, stab a man to death. She and her husband Kelly go with him to the police station, where they leave him. In the morning, Jen wakens and realizes that she has gone back in time one day. Every morning thereafter she finds herself further back in the past, and she realizes that she has to prevent the very first event that eventually would lead to the murder. The concept is compelling, and Jen’s discoveries as she travels back in time are fascinating. Things she hadn’t noticed the first time she had lived the days become significant clues, and revelation follows revelation. The book unravels the past and we and Jen learn how different reality was from what she perceived. Twisty and intriguing, I really enjoyed the book, in spite of its brain-twisting concepts.

Liane Moriarty hits another one out of the park! What an ingenious way of gathering characters! All her books have this quality of weaving together the stories of a more or less random cast of characters, with a Dickensian level of fate, coincidence, and completion. The way these characters are brought together ensures that they will always resound in each others’ lives. On a flight from Hobart, in Tasmania, to Sydney, an unremarkable lady suddenly leaves her seat and tells each passenger how and when they will die. Her predictions start to come true, and we follow the impact of her predictions on the lives of several people. It’s fascinating and heartwarming, with the “death lady,” as she comes to be called online, sharing her own story. Every part of this book is excellent and compelling. I’m way behind on my housework and Christmas preparations due to my being unable to resist “one more chapter.” Excellent narration as well.

Scout and her widowed mother, Jules, move away from Manhattan to a secluded mansion upstate when Jules becomes engaged to Kirin. Kirin is a wealthy artist who is renowned for his intricate puppets and dolls, used in movies and collected around the world. Although the house is beautiful and state-of-the-art, there’s an air of menace about the place, heightened by the ghostly appearance of a young woman, who seems to resemble the doll Kirin made in memory of his dead sister, Emma. This is a short story, but there’s a lot of plot and atmosphere in its relatively few number of pages.

Two reporters, rivals since journalism school, must team up to discover the real story behind one of Canada’s most celebrated novels. The eccentric writer insists that they work together after her death to find the evidence she has left for them in her sprawling mansion. Through being thrown together in such circumstances, the two realize that their antagonism was underlaid by attraction, and they fall in love. The setting and the intricate story behind the novel raise this book above its tropes, making for a delightfully satisfying story.

I enjoyed this funny though predictable YA story about Sadie, super-competitive overachiever, and the thorn in her side, her equally competitive overachieving rival, Julius. At times I was annoyed at how obtuse Sadie was but of course she’d had ten years of snarky comments and an established impression of Julius, while I was reading a lighthearted novel so I could see what was going on. All ends well, relatively believably.

Suspenseful story told from multiple perspectives, Eve, a teacher unhappily married to an inattentive husband, also a teacher, Addie, the high school student who becomes involved with the husband, who is her English teacher, and Nate, the English teacher in question. Navigating high school life is especially tough for Addie, who is held responsible for the firing of a popular teacher who gave her (innocent) extra help with her work. Tormented by the class queen bee, Addie feels isolated as her former best friend is absorbed into the QB’s orbit. To make it worse, her crush’s wife, Eve, is her mean and rigid math teacher, and the two clash. But on a more serious level, the novel depicts grooming behavior and murderous attacks. Each character engages our sympathy and is disquieting in turns. A real page-turner (can you say that about an audiobook?) that kept me listening without pause. My dog enjoyed the ensuing nice long walk! I will look for more from this absorbing author.
