Historia
For years, we’ve been told that being more healthy and productive is a matter of willpower: that we should follow the latest fad and make constant changes to our lifestyles. But whether in our diets, fitness plans or jobs, radical overhauls never work. Instead we should start with quick wins - and embed new, tiny habits into our everyday routines.

Historia
Sona Movsesian didn’t wake up one day and decide to become the World’s Worst Assistant. Achieving such greatness is a gradual process—one that starts with long hours and hard work before it eventually descends into sneaking low-dosage edibles into your lunch and napping on your boss’s couch.

Funny wisdom
Revisado: 12-24-22
I actually found resonance with what Sona was saying in her approach to life. There is a philosophy called the Wu way or the “do nothing” way that she casually embraces. I liked it I’d what I’m fundamentally saying. It was fun and thoughtful too.

From prime ministers who don't hold a hose, to billionaires who think they're astronauts, to people who think lizards are ruling the country and that thermometers are wiping your memory, it's abundantly clear that the world is going to hell. In I Am NOT Fine, Thanks Wil Anderson uses his iconic dry humor to soothe the sting of the last few years — laughter is the best medicine, after all (or is it Apple Cider Vinegar?).

Revisado: 11-03-22
Wil if you read this I think you did a bang up job with writing and reading this book. I’m still going but there’s been heaps of laugh out loud moments already. Spoiler alert ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can’t get the image of “Will Anderson’s” upper body poking out the top of a limousine sunroof in Sydney traffic 😱 out of my head and it makes me smile every time. Well done Wil I’m really glad you finished this book and it turned out so Wil 🥳
PS I loved your contribution to the stand up show on Stan, it was so cool to hear about behind the scenes. Chef’s kiss x

Historia
Multi-award-winning Hannah Gadsby broke comedy with their show Nanette. Now they take us through the defining moments in their life and their powerful decision to tell the truth—no matter the cost. Harrowing and hilarious, Ten Steps to Nanette traces Gadsby’s growth as a queer person, to their ever-evolving relationship with comedy, and their struggle with late-in-life diagnoses of autism and ADHD, finally arriving at the backbone of Nanette: the renouncement of self-deprecation, the rejection of misogyny, and the moral significance of truth-telling.

Sometimes I was belly laughing and sometimes I was crying but I was always gripped. Who is this incredible woman? She pinned her own butterfly wings so we could take a closer look in this book. I hope her current Comedy Special Body of Work is super successful and takes the sting out of her wings (even though I know she is currently touring it with shingles and a broken foot).

The way Moshe draws stories out of audience members while still making jokes and keeping the show on track is truly astounding. I don’t think I’m ever going to hear “my arse” without a Jersey accent ever again.

In her hit Netflix comedy special Baby Cobra, an eight-month pregnant Ali Wong resonated so strongly that she even became a popular Halloween costume. Wong told the world her remarkably unfiltered thoughts on marriage, sex, Asian culture, working women and why you never see new mum comics onstage but you sure see plenty of new dads. The sharp insights and humour are even more personal in this completely original collection.

Historia
What is autism: a lifelong disability or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius? In truth, it is both of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it. Wired reporter Steve Silberman unearths the secret history of autism, long suppressed by the same clinicians who became famous for discovering it, and finds surprising answers to the crucial question of why the number of diagnoses has soared in recent years.

Tears well shed
Revisado: 10-19-15
I have lost track of how many times I cried during this book and at times it was all I could do to continue listening. Silberman reveals many heartbreaking truths about the history of autism but still manages to lift you up when you need it. Rather than being a dry historical account NeuroTribes helped me to realise how much "malware" I had unconsciously taken on board by identifying the historical roots of those beliefs. Thoughts I have about being defective and worthless are not my thoughts at all but a part of a twisted ideal of normality and conformity. After reading this book I feel more awake to my innate worthiness as a living being on this planet. Not better or worse than anyone else just different. I also have a new appreciation for role environment plays and in cultivating a world that I fit into rather than trying to fit into a world where I don't belong. NeuroTribes is not just a historical curiosity but a paradigm smashing new understanding of reality. This book gets tough at times but it is totally worth every ache, every tear. Only through understanding the old paradigm can we start creating the new.

A good and gripping listen
Revisado: 02-23-12
What did you love best about Fetish?
The fact that Mak seemed like such a well rounded character.
Any additional comments?
I was surprised with how much I enjoyed the story and the narration. Tara Moss is not a professional narrator so I was not expecting much but I actually found her to be believable as the voice of Mak. Tara has a pleasant voice to listen to even if it is a little dry - I guess that lends itself to the character anyway. I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.
