Historia
With her arrival on the music scene in the early 1980s, Madonna generated nothing short of an explosion—taking the nation by storm with her liberated politics and breathtaking talent. But Madonna was more than just a pop star. Everywhere, fans gravitated to her as an emblem of a new age, one in which feminism could shed the buttoned-down demeanor of the 1970s and feel relevant to a new generation. Deftly tracing Madonna’s story from her roots to her rise to super-stardom, master biographer Mary Gabriel captures the dramatic life and achievements of one of the greatest artists of our time.

Loved her more and learned a lot!
Revisado: 11-03-24
I really loved the historical perspective of this whole biography. The author justifies her title and helps piece together a deep understanding pop culture in Madonna’s life and my own (born 1979)

Must read for theater nerds
Revisado: 09-12-23
Not the best memoir I’ve ever read, but if you love and know the theater her honest, open, and insider reflections are pure gold. She’s a trail blazer in the biz and her longevity also captures changes in American history throughout the 20th century which I found eye opening.

This was great! The best parts were the personalized stories of his mother. But I was engaged snd interested the whole time. A must read if you watched and liked HBO’s Gilded Age.

Historia
In February 2009, Dan Maccarone, a digital product design executive who works with some of the world’s top brands, walked through the doors of what would be his new bar, Destination, in Manhattan’s East Village. The overwhelming stale-beer smell, ruined floor, and “Happy New Year 2008” banners that hung from the walls were the least of his worries. He had just six weeks and a budget of $150,000 to turn the place into the neighborhood’s new favorite hang-out - and start turning a profit.

Great timing learning important stuff!
Revisado: 10-30-20
This is such a great book on business. Dan and Bob not only have unique and useful experiences to share in helpful ways you can apply to your own life or business but they follow through with a ton of research and insight from other professionals. The bar stories are fun and educational. The writers are generous experts you want to sit down and have another drink with when the book is done.
I wish there was a print version so I could go back and capture some of the bullet points and resonant quotes for reference. Please publish a print copy! Photos would be fun too.

So much more than than you expect!
Revisado: 08-21-20
This is combo of chick-lit, self help, and pop music/tv history.
Jessica connects with you immediately and makes you feel like an old friend. I want to call her now and say hi! But there was a lot more going on here than “pop star” stories, though those told were juicy and great. I cried twice and found myself looking deeper at my own life. Thank you for this book!
