Historia
This fresh look at Hollywood's "Queen of Screwball," Carole Lombard, presents a first-ever examination of the events that led to the shocking flight mishap that took her life on the side of a Nevada mountain in 1942. It also provides a day-by-day account of the struggles of Lombard's husband, Clark Gable, and other family, friends, and fans to cope with the tragedy. In effect, having just completed the first sale of war bonds and stamps in the nation following its entry into World War II, Lombard became the first Hollywood star to sacrifice her life in the war.

Mystery of it all
Revisado: 06-16-24
Carole Lombard was/is my favorite actor of the golden age of Hollywood. If you want to read about what happened that tragic night in NV, you will get answers, but there are still many facts that could not be answered. It did help clear up a few questions I had about the tragedy.

Historia
On their first night in Paris, the Gamaches gather as a family for a bistro dinner with Armand’s godfather, the billionaire Stephen Horowitz. But an attempt on the elderly man’s life sends Armand, his wife, Reine-Marie, and his former second-in-command at the Sûreté, Jean-Guy Beauvoir, from the top of the Tour d’Eiffel, to the bowels of the Paris Archives, from luxury hotels to odd, coded works of art. It sends them deep into the secrets Armand’s godfather has kept for decades.

Adventure in Paris
Revisado: 03-26-24
Ms. Penny took us on a deep dive into the Gamache family. Very tense at times, kept me turning pages.
We learn more about Steven, Gamache’s Godfather. Very interesting and a window into his time during WWII.
It’s a long read, but well worth the time.
If you love the series, this book will not disappoint.

Sorrow and Hope
Revisado: 03-07-24
“The Women”, is well written and the narrator gives an excellent performance. My high school and early college years were wrapped up in the events of the Vietnam War. Listening to the words brings back memories of this turbulent time.
The lack of understanding what PTSD (or what it was) causalities was brought to the fore so dramatically one could taste it. The many returning in country personnel being greeted with silence or hostility was shocking for all. Thank you for writing this important book and sharing the stories of women; nurses, doughnut dolly’s, physicians who served in Vietnam and were nite recognized for their bravery at that time. (Having a loving brother KIA in Vietnam did bring great sadness to my family, they were never the same. Reading about the dedication of nurses who gave so much to help save so many young men. Knowing about the nurses, gives me comfort that perhaps my brother was given comfort at his end

Historia
Welcome to winter in Three Pines, a picturesque village in Quebec, where the villagers are preparing for a traditional country Christmas, and someone is preparing for murder. No one liked CC de Poitiers. Not her quiet husband, not her spineless lover, not her pathetic daughter - and certainly none of the residents of Three Pines. CC de Poitiers managed to alienate everyone, right up until the moment of her death. When Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, of the Sûreté du Quebec, is called to investigate, he quickly realizes he's dealing with someone quite extraordinary.

Plot line & character development 🧡
Revisado: 12-08-22
I’ve read through all “Inspector Ganache is the head of homicide department set in Sûreté du Quebec”, novels. I love them all. Ganache has an old world charm working in the harsh reality of crime on Montreal.
There are 2 narrators for this series, both are excellent. The 1st, Ralph Cosham passed away before the series was finished, Robert Bathurst took over narrating the book, he is excellent. Go for it, they will not disappoint.

Peter Grainger has another page turner, could not stop 🛑 listening. I Wondered In first chapter how Willow & Long would mesh, WOW. What a ride, stayed up until 3am to finish.
Henrietta Meire excellent performance 🎭, she makes this series special in the same manner Gildart Jackson makes DC Smith.

Historia
When 14-year-old Zoe Johnson doesn't come home on a Monday night in early December, the alarm bells in Kings Lake Central police station do not ring straight away - after all, she's from the Dockmills, one of the toughest estates in the town. But for Detective Sergeant DC Smith, due to retire in just three weeks' time, there are some strange echoes of the case that has haunted him for the past 13 years. Maybe it's simply his over-developed sense of irony, or maybe, in his final days as a police officer, Smith must look once more into the eyes of a serial killer.

Historia
When a worker goes missing from a North Sea gas platform, there seem to be just two possible explanations - it was a tragic accident or a suicide. It does not take Smith and his detectives long, however, to discover that James Bell led a double life back onshore in Kings Lake, a life complicated enough to make him at least one dangerous enemy. Before the case can be unraveled, Smith must get a new team working together.

I’ve grown very fond of this series. Each book you learn a bit more about what makes Smith tick.
Narration is excellent by Gildart Jackson-he can fling the tart barbs with the best of them (Grainger sure makes his characters interesting).
This is right up there with Chief Inspector Armand Gamache on the Sûreté du Québec

When another resident of the Rosemary House care home is found dead in her chair one Saturday evening in December, no one is very surprised - not until the results of a routine post-mortem reveal something extraordinary. Sergeant DC Smith and his team have to tread carefully as they investigate what took place, and Smith himself has to confront some difficult memories. Others, meanwhile, seem intent on getting him to leave the force altogether.

Interesting view on aging, terminal illness and remaining in control.
I enjoyed the story, Grainger always makes one think about all aspects of an issue.
Gildart Jackson great performance as expected, love how he can deliver the dry humerus comments of DC Smith. Love the series.

Falling a page Turner
Revisado: 07-22-21
You never know what adventures will take place while flying the friendly skies. T.J. Newman has written a grand book, and her 1st; hope many more as good to come. As a ‘Frequent Flyer’ person, i was amazed how hard the flight crews worked to make my/passengers flights safe. Loved how Ms. Newman pointed out jerks on planes, there would always be one.
The many layers of action and how each affected the other just added to the tension.
I would highly recommend ‘Falling’ and as Steven Weber as narrater how can you go wrong.

Wonderful series
Revisado: 08-30-20
This series is so interesting, funny and does give one a view of life in the Scottish Highlands. M.C. Beaton does have a gift for story telling of great characters. There are many books in this Wonderful series, but for me, I can only listen to a Hamlish Macbeth tale as read by ‘Graeme Malcolm’.
He is the reader starting at book 16, I tried to listen to other narrators in books 1-15, but I can’t, not the same or as enjoyable without Mr. Malcolm.
(Same with the Agatha Raisin series by Beaton; best and only narrator for me is Penelope Keith).
Enjoy
