Historia
If forests are the lungs of the planet, then animals migrating across oceans, streams, and mountains—eating, pooping, and dying along the way—are its heart and arteries, pumping nitrogen and phosphorus from deep-sea gorges up to mountain peaks, from the Arctic to the Caribbean. Without this conveyor belt of crucial, life-sustaining nutrients, the world would look very different.

Listen to this book! Beautifully written, masterful interweaving of information and ideas. All the science grounded in human and animal stories that make the listening fun and fascinating and make the science understandable for the uninformed or little-informed reader. Warm-hearted, funny, deeply caring, helpfully alarming, hopeful. Excellent for scientists/ecologist and the lay-reader alike. THANK YOU, Joe Roman. What a gift! Also, the narrator, Claire Christie, is excellent. A very good choice. Thank you, Claire Christie.

Historia
Hardly a day passes without Trille and Lena inventing some kind of adventure that often ends in trouble. Whether it's coaxing a cow onto a boat or tobogganing down the steepest and iciest hill with a chicken, there is always a thrill - and sometimes an injury - to be had. Trille loves to share everything with Lena, even Auntie Granny's waffles, which make everything just perfect. But when Lena has to move away, and Auntie Granny leaves the world, it sometimes seems nothing will ever be right again.

Beautiful and hilarious. Maria Parr writes so perfectly from the perspective of the child … different children, too. Our whole family, ages 6 to 53, treasures her work. With astonishing humor, she writes about the depth of human love and caring, what loss feels like, and the often unsentimental ways that people of all ages care for each other and express their love. And the vivid picture she paints of life in a Norwegian coastal village is just fascinating and delicious. A book about the best and kindest of what it means to be human. And so many laughs along the way!

Historia
Harmony Parker thought animals much nicer than people, and saw everyone she knew as some non-human species. Her father, for example, was most definitely a bald-headed Sea Lion, her mother a tubby, fussy Pouter Pigeon, and her tiresome older sister a Siamese cat. But Harmony's parents would not allow her to have real pets of any kind – not even a harmless gerbil. Then Uncle Ginger arrived from India and gave Harmony a very special present ...

Wow! Another Dick King-Smith Masterpiece
Revisado: 02-27-23
Wow and beautiful! Our whole family loves Dick King-Smith and his compassionate, intelligent, and often laugh-out-loud stories. We all (ages 6 to 53) cherish his prose style and his pictures of lives in another time and place (we're American, 2020s). Eve Karpf narrates beautifully. She makes the words sing. Great character voices. THANK YOU!

Another wonderful Dick King-Smith book, and another wonderful narrator. Our whole family delights in his stories: humorous, profound, magical, compassionate, insightful. We’re so glad that more of his books are being recorded now. The narrators chosen are almost always superlative, as is this one. Thank you! Keep more coming please!

Historia
This short, opinionated audiobook addresses the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, which argues that the language we speak shapes the way we perceive the world. Linguist John McWhorter argues that while this idea is mesmerizing, it is plainly wrong. It is language that reflects culture and worldview, not the other way around.

Historia
Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. But it also beguiles us with its endless mysteries, allowing us to ponder why different languages emerged, why there isn't simply a single language, how languages change over time and whether that's good or bad, and how languages die out and become extinct.
