Not For CBT Beginners & Athiests
Revisado: 02-28-25
If you’re new to CBT and want to know what it’s about I would definitely not recommend this book. For that I would recommend, the books Feeling Good or Feeling Great or even Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Made Simple by the same author. Also, if you’re an Atheist be forewarned that this book is basically a large series of writings from the authors own thoughts on mindfulness and spirituality, namely through Christianity. Having had said that, the book offers new insights that are worth listening to.

I deducted one star because a lot of the apps that were recommended in the book were not given very high reviews, but the book is otherwise excellent and recommended if you want to know how to travel.

Historia
Traditional workplace conversations - which are based on a parent-child model - stymie growth and erode commitment. The Showkeirs advocate instead authentic conversations that are based on an adult-adult model. These conversations tell the truth, let go of the illusion of control, and view people as in charge of their own motivation. The result is a conversation revolution that creates greater commitment, real accountability for results, and improved organizational performance.

Historia
The Art of Self-Awareness takes you on a journey - not to an exotic destination, but inwards. It’s perilous, scary, and uncomfortable, but the end rewards will be fantastic. Self-awareness is not simply knowing your name; it’s knowing what makes you happy, what makes you sad, and the underlying beliefs and values that create those emotions. The toughest skill of all: metacognition, which is thinking about your thinking. To get to Point B, you must know what Point A is. Listen to this book to find your starting point, your end goal, and what must happen in between!

I’ve listened to this book at least two times and I’ve also listened to the book Insight by Eurich two times as well. Out of these two books, I would definitely recommend the Insight book. Insight is about self-awareness written by a true expert in the field. If you read Insight there’s absolutely no need for King’s book.

Historia
Integrating hundreds of studies with her own research and work in the Fortune 500 world, organizational psychologist Tasha Eurich shatters conventional assumptions about what it takes to truly know ourselves - like why introspection isn't a bullet train to insight, how experience is the enemy of self-knowledge, and just how far others will go to avoid telling us the truth about ourselves. At a time when self-awareness matters more than ever, Insight is the essential playbook for surviving and thriving in an unaware world.

This was an outstanding book on self-awareness. Both for organizations and for individuals. The title is called insight, but I really think it should’ve been called self-awareness. Highly recommended.

Historia
In his international bestseller, The Happiness Advantage, Harvard-trained researcher Shawn Achor described why happiness is the precursor to greater success. Before Happiness is about what comes before both. Because before we can be happy or successful, we need to first develop the ability to see that positive change is possible. Only once we learn to see the world through a more positive lens can we summon all our motivation, emotion, and intelligence to achieve our personal and professional goals.

I’ve read/listened to over 170 books many of them in the self-help category. This is the second Shawn Achor book that I’ve listen to. I think it may be even better than his first book- The Happiness advantage. It is truly a life-changing book and I would highly recommend it.

Our most commonly held formula for success is broken. Conventional wisdom holds that once we succeed, we’ll be happy; that once we get that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But the science reveals this formula to be backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around.

The author is a captivating writer. Somehow her books suck you in even though they’re in the self-help category. But in terms of efficacy, this book falls short. A far better book if you want to improve your social skills is the Social Skills Guidebook by Macleod.
