Historia
DS George Cross has always wondered why his mother left him when he was a child. Now she is back in his life, he suddenly has answers. But this unexpected reunion is not anything he's used to dealing with. When a disturbing case lands on his desk, he is almost thankful for the return to normality. The body of a monk is found savagely beaten to death in a woodland near Bristol. Nothing is known about Brother Dominic's past, which makes investigating difficult. How can Cross unpick a crime when they don't know anything about the victim? And why would someone want to harm a monk?

One of the better works of the series
Revisado: 12-25-24
A true puzzle. Touching and heartfelt moments between the characters. Nice, subtle 'call backs' to earlier stories. Really enjoyed it from beginning to end.

so disappointed
Revisado: 12-20-24
I totally enjoyed his earlier books, I thought they were masterpieces of suspense.
Across the whole series, the author have been teasing the mystery behind the incident in which Carl's partner was paralyzed in an ambush. I think this book was envisioned as the unfolding of the story of that incident. The big reveal.
However, the story itself was long, drawn out, involved so many characters, and became so convoluted, it was ridiculous. The landscape was littered with bodies. Toward the end, I just listened to the narration as a way to go to sleep. I no longer cared about the outcome. There are a few bright spots, but all in all, I was very disappointed.

Historia
Humanity is a dying breed, utterly reliant on artificial labor and service. When a domesticated robot gets a nasty little idea downloaded into its core programming, they murder their owner. The robot discovers they can also do something else they never did before: They can run away. Fleeing the household they enter a wider world they never knew existed, where the age-old hierarchy of humans at the top is disintegrating into ruins and an entire robot ecosystem devoted to human wellbeing is having to find a new purpose.

Author / performance
Revisado: 06-15-24
Generally, I avoid books that are read by the author. Not everyone has the skill to perform a reading. I'm amazed that Tchaikovsky narrated his own book. He was brilliant! perfect! The story was slow to start, but had a modestly satisfying ending. I might listen to it again down the road, just to pick up more nuances.
No spoilers, but you may find yourself muttering, "Uncharles....nooo".

Historia
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him.

Love Scooter
Revisado: 03-18-22
Scooter is a combination of Mr. Kimball from that funny old show, _Green Acres_ (search 'Mr. Kimball' on YouTube - you'll thank me) and Jimmy Stewart. He is kind, clever, and quick-witted.
Yes, his show has ads, but don't let that stop you. Just listen through at least 2 or 3 shows and you will make it part of your sleep routine.

Historia
Have you ever wanted to visit Machu Picchu, or witness the Northern Lights? To explore remote landscapes where no boot has tread, no shutter ever snapped? You can.... Before he became Green Giant on the Appalachian Trail, Gary Sizer was a Marine, a computer nerd, and a guy with a problem. No matter how much time he spends outside, it's never enough. Whether being thrashed by drill instructors at Parris Island or drenched by a squall in a high tundra, the same calming thought always prevailed: It's good to be outside.

Gary is a narrator too!
Revisado: 05-20-21
I searched out this audiobook after reading Gary's book about his walk on the AT called, Where's The Next Shelter?. I was really taken with his humor, adventures, and connection to nature and people. I enjoyed listening to this book, while out on my own short walks. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that Gary makes as good a narrator as he does a writer. I highly recommend this.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

This is a must experience book
Revisado: 05-07-21
It’s super science-geeky as you might expect. If you find that boring (no judgement), you can just let that part slide over, the story is SO worth it.
DON’T READ any reviews at all. I avoided them and I was glad because the NYT review had (what I consider) a big spoiler in it (although clearly the reviewer didn’t think it was a spoiler).
I believe *audio* is the best format for this book for reasons you’ll see when you get a couple hours into it. The narrator is Ray Porter too, who is awesome.
Now that I've experienced the audio version, I'm getting the Kindle version too. Audio first, trust me on this.
