Historia
Adults have forgotten the feel of a teenager's love. For you a teenager will walk through glass doors, stay awake three days in a row, be an angel standing under your window in the rain. So what that we don't know how to order from the butcher or apply foundation or insert a diaphragm? Show us. So advises Paige Bergman, a high school student who falls in love with housewife Fiona Gallagher in Jane Summer's lyrical debut novel, The Silk Road.

Historia
Poet Ocean Vuong’s debut novel is a shattering portrait of a family, a first love, and the redemptive power of storytelling. On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read. Written when the speaker, Little Dog, is in his late 20s, the letter unearths a family’s history that began before he was born - a history whose epicenter is rooted in Vietnam - and serves as a doorway into parts of his life his mother has never known, all of it leading to an unforgettable revelation.

this was soooo amazing

I see a lot of criticism from other reviewers concerning the performance of the author. I personally feel like you couldn't find a more authentic way to experience someone's work. This book was way more than I expected. So genuine and raw. I feel like it was a pretty great snap shot of America during that time (I'm assuming this was early 2000s). Listening to him describe the American setting from the perspective of an immigrant was just, so interesting. Definitely a perspective I'd see hard to have from someone born in this country. I commend the author's courage in being open and vulnerable about some of these moments, and the further bravery required to perform it himself. This was a truly wonderful experience and I hope to find more from this author soon.

So when Bryson agrees to secretly go out with him, Kai is thrown for a loop. But as the days go by, he discovers there's more to Bryson beneath the surface, and dating him begins to feel less like an act and more like the real thing.

As much as I'd love to give this a better rating..
Revisado: 05-22-21
I kinda can't... Obviously this is just my personal opinion and maybe I'm just not the right demographic, but there were so many cringe-y things in this story. I mean, don't get me wrong I think the representation is important and I think in that regard it deserves an okay rating, but there were so many like, I don't know how to say it, maybe "trying too hard to sound current/young" moments? It just felt like maybe the author was a little out of touch with current teenagersand so used vernacular that like, someone thinks they might use? I don't know like, I'd be really enjoying the story then these moments would come up and I was just like.... Yeah, major cringe. But overall it's pretty cute, I guess, if you can just get past some of that stuff

It was fairly entertaining
Revisado: 04-21-21
I decided to try this book because I loved A Density of Souls when I was a kid, and this was a book by Christopher Rice that seemed pretty popular. i liked the concept and I mostly liked the main character, but I do feel like there was some pretty decent build up that didn't resolve totally satisfyingly, in my opinion. It was fine, but didn't leave a lasting impact. Of course this is just my opinion, I always want to support creative works and if you're even slightly considering this, I'd say go for it.
