Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Historia
It all begins with a hot-air-balloon trip and three bottles of champagne. Allan and Julius are ready for some spectacular views, but they’re not expecting to land in the sea and be rescued by a North Korean ship, and they could never have imagined the captain of the ship would be harboring a suitcase full of contraband uranium on a nuclear-weapons mission for Kim Jong-un. Yikes! Soon Allan and Julius are at the center of a complex diplomatic crisis involving world figures from the Swedish foreign minister to Angela Merkel and President Trump.

Just meh.
Revisado: 01-29-24
The first one was excellent.
This one is missing much of the charm and makes the main character annoying rather than interesting.

Historia
My crew betrayed me. Had me thrown behind bars and ripped away from the woman I loved. Too bad, they underestimated my thirst for revenge. This Christmas, I vow to paint these wintry streets with blood. Make it all red snow. But there’s just one problem. Zuri. The woman I was forced to abandon. The one who still haunts my dreams. Now, as the snow blankets the city in white, and revenge burns hot in my veins, I'm faced with a choice. Do I follow the path of retribution? Or do I dare to reclaim the love I lost?

AI is not ready for prime time.
Revisado: 12-29-23
The book was ok.
The mediocre book could have been enhanced with a good narrator.
Instead, the AI narration made the mediocre book worse. No emotion in a book about gangsters and love?
“She screamed. Ah.” Flat and monotone. It was weird and took you out of the story.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Good Stuff

If you want to know more about the presidents and find out if they were an Ameri-can or an Ameri-can’t, this is the podcast for you.
The life and presidency of the US presidents is told in a fun and interesting way by two Brits. And then you get to find out their overall ranking based on how well they handled their presidency, personal life, and their presidential portrait (for bonus points!).
My only complaint is that new episodes don’t come out in a regular time frame, but if you are listening to them now they have most of the presidents covered.

Historia
The Indignities of Being a Woman candidly traces the history of womanhood and investigates how much things have really changed for womankind. By carefully x-raying areas such as body image, marriage, mental illness, fashion, and politics, this audiobook examines what it was like to be a woman in the past versus what it’s like now, when women are constantly told equality between the sexes exists but reality proves otherwise.

We get it. You don’t like Trump
Revisado: 09-24-22
If you want to hear the name Trump fifteen times in fifteen minutes, this is the book for you.
If they could tell the story without that every three minutes, it would probably be pretty good.
