A disappointment
Revisado: 11-15-17
I found this to be rather disappointing. It spent much too long in the supernatural world and lost the excitement that is present in the rest of the series. It was like watching a Dr Who episode.

Extremely well paced. I was eager to hear more and ended up turning the television off in favor of this story. Good read!

Incredibly enjoyable!
Revisado: 10-02-16
A good break from the "Mad Max" type of story. Stayed enjoyable without the roving bands of evil psychopaths. I guess it is more in the Swiss Family Robertson , incorporating all the issues in an extremely engaging way.

Historia
"One of the best long-running SF series in existence" ( Publishers Weekly) continues with the second novel in a brand-new Foreigner sequence. The civil war among the alien Atevi has ended. Tabini-aiji, powerful ruler of the Western Association, along with Cajeiri, his son and heir, has returned to the Bujavid, his seat of power. But factions that remain loyal to the opposition are still present, and the danger these rebels pose is far from over.

Mildly disappointed
Revisado: 05-28-13
Would you try another book from C. J. Cherryh and/or Daniel Thomas May?
While this book is not the strongest entry in the series I will continue to read more books by this author.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The ending was very abrupt. I felt like I was in the middle of the story and found out several pages were missing.
Have you listened to any of Daniel Thomas May’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The preformance was on par with his usual high quality.
Do you think Deceiver needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
The deciever is a link in a series and I would feel betrayed if there wasn't more to tie up the dangling threads of the story lines.
Any additional comments?
Deciever was a mild disappointment for me. The storyline dragged a little and the ending was so abrupt that I was in disbelief when the audible credits came on. If it hadn't been in the middle of the series I would not reccommend it. The poor ending colored the rest of the book for me.

A disappointment
Revisado: 03-11-13
What would have made The Frozen Sky better?
Started strong and weakened from there
Would you ever listen to anything by Jeff Carlson again?
As a last resort only
How could the performance have been better?
It seems like a continous whine - the passion one expected never came through
What character would you cut from The Frozen Sky?
All of them
Any additional comments?
Good premise destroyed by a weak story

Dated but still pertains

I read this originally back 1970 while a member of the Air Force. The fact that I still enjoy it today shows how it still poses a believable picture of a post disaster small town.
