Historia
All of the stories you've heard are wrong. They always tell you that starting a new life in a fantasy world is an amazing experience, full of magic, adventure, and true love...but they never tell you what happens when it's over. They don't tell you that it just happens again. And again. By the time you start your third new life in a row, all of that initial amazement wears off. That's where Lux finds himself now: dropped into yet another fantasy world, forced to restart his life all over again. He wants nothing more than to disappear...but it seems the world has other plans for him.

Fine idea, garbage execution.
Revisado: 04-15-25
I'm not sure that I've ever had a book go downhill so quickly and permanently before. The moment he is arrested, the story dies. Endless internal monolog with bits of brain dead dialogue. Oh, and incredibly lame flashbacks every time he sleeps. I thought the idea was that he was a seasoned adventurer of some sort, but the MC acts more like a noob who has some idea of the basic world rules from playing video games or something. I ended up skipping a lot after a while, feeling like I missed nothing of value. Don't waste your time on this.

The MC is a bit unhinged in weird ways, but the story is pretty good. My only complaint is that the world is somehow a bit...devoid of detail. Still worth a listen though.

Zzzzzz
Revisado: 03-22-25
no matter what was happening, the character came across as being bored. Not much really seemed to happen until the end, it was like hearing aomeone go on and on about the office, except with supernatural elements that never seem to amaze anyone.

gremlins meets the dark crystal
Revisado: 02-18-25
So, I started this because it was described as a horror fantasy novel. If you consider Gremlins to be horror, then sure. Except that Gremlins is more of a comedy with darker elements, and this is basically the same. Nothing really feels menacing at all, and the main character is a 30 something idiot stuck in his teenage angst years, mad at daddy.

Historia
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

Started off okay but then turned into a 90s sci fi adventure tv show. Perhaps it gets better, but I'm bored. Also the author doesn't seem to know much about guns.

What I’m about to tell you is going to be hard to believe… The truth has been hidden for a long, long time… Do you have what it takes to find the truth? I wasn’t looking for anything. You might be the kind of person who wants to know what’s going on around you, but I was content just doing my job and being left alone. But sometimes life gets messy and the curtain that hides reality from most of us gets pulled back. All I can tell you is… there are some things you can’t unsee. So tread carefully. What you have in your hands is the true account of Hank Downes. I thought of ...

Historia
The war crimes trials at Nuremberg and Tokyo meted out the Allies' official justice; Lord Russell of Liverpool's sensational bestselling books on the Axis' war crimes decided the public's opinion. The Knights of Bushido, Russell's shocking account of Japanese brutality in the Pacific in World War II, describes how the noble founding principles of the Empire of Japan were perverted by the military into a systematic campaign of torture, murder, starvation, rape, and destruction. Notorious incidents like the Nanking Massacre and the Bataan Death March emerge as merely part of a pattern of human rights abuses. Undoubtedly formidable soldiers, the Japanese were terrible conquerors. Their conduct in the Pacific is a harrowing example of the doctrine of mutual destruction carried to the extreme, and begs the question of what is acceptable—and unacceptable—in total war.

Idiocy reigns
Revisado: 12-24-24
I know that many love these characters, but, I just can't go on. The characters do extremely dumb things, but we keep being told that one of the two is supposed to be smart. The dumb one falls for the same trick twoce in this book, it is extremely obvious what's going on, but he does it anyway. Saying "not again" afterwards does not excuse this. We're supposed to believe that this guy is a veteran of many wars and campaigns (somehow all crammed into a mere 5 years) and yet he's so incredibly stupid that any street urchin could take him out regardless of his blade skills. The smart one did something noisy and brutal, in public, and left a name for the blame to fall on, the name of those he wanted to protect. No subtlety, no brains, nothing. Everything just kinda works out for them every time, in spite of their idiocy. I just don't get the appeal and cannot continue.
