Great story and Narration
Revisado: 12-22-24
Grady Hendrix is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and ask the 80s nostalgia. The narrator gave a solid performance. There were a few questions raised that never got answered, but the book still felt complete. Definitely would recommend.

Historia
Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is summoned to France after receiving a distressing letter with a urgent cry for help. Upon his arrival in Merlinville-sur-Mer, the investigator finds the man who penned the letter, the South American millionaire Monsieur Renauld, stabbed to death and his body flung into a freshly dug open grave on the golf course adjoining the property. Meanwhile the millionaire's wife is found bound and gagged in her room. Apparently, it seems that Renauld and his wife were victims of a failed break-in, resulting in Renauld's kidnapping and death.

Fantastic Narrator; solid story
Revisado: 06-28-24
I absolutely love Richard Armitage’s narration of these Hercule Poirot stories. He is an absolutely fantastic reader. I wish he read more than 5 of them. The story line of Murder on the Links is not quite as good as the others I’ve read so far, but it was still good. And I did enjoy the twists and turns throughout.

When Emily is poisoned and the authorities are baffled, Poirot puts his prodigious sleuthing skills to work. Fantastic Narration

The story was decent. I don’t think it was one of Christie’s best, but it was still solid. I was not a fan of the pov character. He was a bit too obtuse.
That said, Richard Armitage’s narration of these Hercule Poirot novels is fantastic! I am so impressed with his narration.

Historia
The story that made Agatha Christie famous ends with one of her most dramatic twists. The villagers of King’s Abbot are shocked when a wealthy local widow commits suicide and the very next day her fiancé, Roger Ackroyd, is stabbed to death. Dr. James Sheppard, the local physician, discovers the body of his friend and narrates the ensuing hunt for the killer. All the guests and staff at Ackroyd's country house seem to have solid alibis - except for his missing stepson.

Great Narrator; Very good story
Revisado: 05-31-24
I enjoyed listening to The Murder of Roger Ackroyd very much. I did figure out the ending ahead of time, but I’m sure that is only because I’ve had exposure to 100 years of storytelling since this was published. I’d be willing to bet that this was a great twist in 1929.

Unique, Interesting but a couple of gaps
Revisado: 05-15-24
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I loved the use of the changeling myth and the Norwegian troll legend. The beginning started a bit slow, with a little too much “telling” and not enough “showing,” but once it got to the Apollo and Emma storyline it got better. Generally, the writing was solid, and the narrator was good. I liked the characters of Apollo and Patrice (sp) and I enjoyed their relationship. I felt like Emma could have been fleshed out a bit more. I did feel that there were 1 or 2 plot holes. First, maybe I missed it (I listened to the audiobook during my commute and occasionally get distracted), but the story about Apollo’s father didn’t seem to fit in with everything else. I kept expecting it to tie in, but it never quite made it. And the island with Cal… did all those women lose children to the troll? Finally, what about the ending? I don’t want to spoil, but it does not seem likely that everyone can just go back to life as usual.
But all that is me being nitpicky. It really was an interesting story and genuinely unique.

A Fabulous Character
Revisado: 11-29-23
Holly Gibney has been a terrific character from her first appearance in Mr. Mercedes, but in this novel we really see her incredible growth. I have always felt that what King does best is characterization, and the character of Holly Gibney is proof. Along with a compelling story and wonderful characters, Justine Lupe’s performance was spot-on. Thoroughly enjoyable

Trucks that punish and beautiful teen demons who seduce a young man to massacre; curses whose malevolence grows through the years; obscene presences and angels of grace - here, indeed, is a night-blooming bouquet of chills and thrills.

Great Group of Stories
Revisado: 05-29-23
I love Stephen King, and The Mist (included in this collection) is one of my favorite stories of his. I enjoyed all of the stories in this collection, although some are better than others, of course. I also enjoyed most of the narrators, but again, some more than others. If Michael C Hall could read all of King’s stories from now on, I’d be a happy camper. He reads two in this collection (and a recent release of Pet Sematary), and I just love his narration.
Bottom line, if you’re a King fan, you can’t go wrong with this collection.

I enjoyed Life of Pi more than I thought I would. I thoroughly enjoyed both the moments of humor and insight. There were times in the middle when it dragged a little, but the ending really pulled it together for me. The narrator was very good.
