Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

My new favorite Audible title!
Revisado: 06-11-21
This book was absolutely made for an Audible experience! I truly appreciate what I gained by listening vs. reading. Early in the book, I realized that I would have read our brave science teacher as snarky, which would have dampened my enjoyment of the story. Then, later in the book, WOW! The effects were terrific!
I would definitely recommend this experience!! Thanks, Andy and Ray! I know I’ll be re-listening to this one over and over and over and over and…

Historia
Seventy-five years have passed since D-Day, the greatest seaborne invasion in history. The outcome of the Second World War hung in the balance on that chill June morning. Giles Milton’s bold new history narrates the day’s events through the tales of survivors from all sides: the teenage Allied conscript, the crack German defender, the French resistance fighter. Soldier, Sailor, Frogman, Spy, Airman, Gangster, Kill or Die lays bare the absolute terror of those trapped in the front line of Operation Overlord.

Another fabulous book by Mr. Milton
Revisado: 05-28-19
Giles Milton has quickly become my favorite author for books covering individuals involved in war. He has an uncanny ability to take personal stories and weave them together into a coherent narrative regarding large-scale operations: in this case D-Day. While you may know the beaches, the units, the defenses; in this book you will learn the tale of the recently married RAF flyer whose wedding ring is found in 2012. And the English Lady who complains to the Allies that they’re messing up her garden. And the German Panzer commander who launches a counterattack. While many of the stories end in sadness, the lives are not forgotten, and their efforts are honored. As a narrator, Mr. Milton gives his stories the appropriate feeling and tone. He will pull you in for each situation, yet pull you back out to remind you of the scope of the one day when all these lives connected.

Historia
In the spring of 1939, a top-secret organization was founded in London: Its purpose was to plot the destruction of Hitler's war machine through spectacular acts of sabotage. The guerrilla campaign that followed was every bit as extraordinary as the six men who directed it. One of them, Cecil Clarke, was a maverick engineer who had spent the 1930s inventing futuristic caravans. Now his talents were put to more devious use: He built the dirty bomb used to assassinate Hitler's favorite, Reinhard Heydrich.

Exciting as a suspense novel, but all true. Great detail on the people who designed armament and those who fought behind enemy lines. Stories I’ve never heard and was fascinated by. Well worth the listen! Bravo!

Historia
"Marley was dead to begin with...." These chillingly familiar words begin the classic Christmas tale of remorse and redemption in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Now R. William Bennett rewinds the story and focuses the spotlight on Scrooge’s miserly business partner, Jacob T. Marley, who was allowed to return as a ghost to warn Scrooge away from his ill-fated path. Why was Marley allowed to return? And why hadn’t he been given the same chance as Ebenezer Scrooge? Or had he?

Great backstory for Marley.
Revisado: 12-18-17
What a wonderful story to listen to at Christmas!
This is the story of Marley, Scrooge’s partner and he who forewarns Scrooge of the spirits who will visit. The story centers around the question of why Scrooge was given a chance to change, but Marley wasn’t.
It’s a tale of regret, possibilities, and how easily the kindness of people can touch lives and change them. It is also a story of hope and redemption. If you already know the story of Scrooge, this book will enhance that experience. The characters are rich, it is deep but not maudlin, and it is beautifully told.
The narrator adds to the listening as his voice lends itself to a story set in an earlier time, and was true to the somber nature of the book.
This is a book I’ll listen to as a Christmas tradition.

Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

WOW! Great book, fabulous narration! If only...
Revisado: 08-24-17
I have always loved this book, and Steven Weber does a tremendous job bringing 'It' to life. The voices, the nuances from tension to the every day world; spot on! When I told my brother who the narrator was, he said, "the guy from Wings". And I told him they couldn't have picked anyone better. Bravo!
The one annoyance, and it occurs too often for my taste, is editing. It's obvious where they splice recordings together; sounds like a skip in an LP, or like they cut him off mid-word. It's too bad, too.
Still definitely worth the listen, just be prepared. Oh, and lock your door. It is a Stephen King book. :0)

Historia
It’s 2011, and Samuel Andresen-Anderson—college professor, stalled writer—has a Nix of his own: his mother, Faye. He hasn’t seen her in decades, not since she abandoned the family when he was a boy. Now she’s re-appeared, having committed an absurd crime that electrifies the nightly news, beguiles the internet, and inflames a politically divided country. The media paints Faye as a radical hippie with a sordid past, but as far as Samuel knows, his mother was an ordinary girl who married her high-school sweetheart.

Left me dissatisfied.
Revisado: 04-08-17
First, let me be very clear to point out that the narrator was phenomenal! So many different characters, and he was able to create a definitive voice for each.
Much of the story was incredible. I'm probably basing this rating on how I thought everything should have been wrapped up. I was left wondering about one pretty major character, while the arc of one I don't feel I needed was wrapped up. Another character's character totally changed...
A lot happens in this book, and I was totally intrigued by the first 3/4. After that... let me say it again, it's likely my preference on how the storylines should have ended that left me disappointed. You may love it !

All hail Bob!
Revisado: 01-12-17
Would you listen to We Are Legion (We Are Bob) again? Why?
Absolutely! The plot is clever, the narrator does a really good job with the nuances of tone and emotion, and the story makes me wonder what being 'human' is really about. Love how Bob interacts with all of the different characters in the story.
What other book might you compare We Are Legion (We Are Bob) to and why?
It reminds me of some of Scalzi's sci-fi work (think Agent to the Stars or Miniatures). Entertaining, funny, who's really in charge, good characterization of non-human entities; an enjoyable ride from start to finish.
Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not. But I will, I'm sure. He has a solid range of voices, and -as already mentioned- is talented in nuance.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Bob's the man! errr... Men! errrr... Brains! errr.... ???

Great variety of stories, with intros by author.
Revisado: 01-12-17
What did you love best about Miniatures?
Most of the stories made me laugh out loud! And since I listened to it in the car, I got some really funny looks. (Which, in my opinion, makes it just that much more fun!)
What was one of the most memorable moments of Miniatures?
Hard to choose because each of the stories is so unique. My favorite is 'Denise Jones, Superbooker'. OMG!! So hilarious! The last 'story', though, is a poem he wrote to Penelope (wife of Odysseus), which is extremely sweet. Very touching.
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
So many characters, so many voices.... The kids in the Lemonade story had the perfect whiny tones. Ha!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not necessary because the stories are so short, but I did want to because it was so entertaining.
Any additional comments?
Could not have asked for a more enjoyable two+ hours of entertainment. If you like Scalzi's work, this is a must-have.

Fun listening!!
Revisado: 09-30-16
This is a great follow-up to The Gates. All my favorite characters are back, some 'not-so-favorites', and many new ones. Though some don't play as large a role in this book, Samuel and Boswell are once again in the thick of things.
Speaking of which, it is really helpful if you've read The Gates prior to this, but not absolutely necessary. They do explain what happened in the first book. But you will have missed the fun of listening to it. ;)
The narrator does a tremendous job! He has a great voice and provides each character with a voice that rings true based on their nature.
While I am an adult (at least my driver's license says I am) this book is probably targeted to a slightly younger audience. But if you enjoy lighthearted 'evil' with a lot of laughs, this is a book for you!

The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Story was entertaining!
Revisado: 09-13-16
Enjoyed the story! Clever plot. Good variety in characters, use of eidetic memory made it easy to follow some places that might have been confusing, and understand the concept and 'physics' in the novel. Disappointed in the end as I didn't feel it was totally wrapped up. SPOILER ALERT: Who were those individuals at the end? What about Reggie?
Performance was ok. Narrator seemed invested in the book, but didn't have the range of voices to support the number of characters. Not sure how many people would considering the core 'cast' consisted of @9 characters.
Definitely glad I listened to it.
