Mixed feelings

The world building was great. The pacing was slower at first then seemingly rushed later. The character changed in ways I did not entirely enjoy. Certain characters made choices I found to be out of character or at least not ready to make that early in their development. The narration was fantastic.

Spoiler:

I had hoped the author would maintain a more villainous MC instead of moving away from the idea in favor of a played out anti-hero type. Despite enjoying the universe the author created, the evolution of the character has fallen away with what originally captivated me about this series in the first book. I’ll likely finish the series out, but it really disappoints me that the MC does not follow his original principles. In my opinion, the ascension to divinity would be much more enticing if he maintained evil alignment instead deviating to a neutral one. There are far too few villain led stories to partake in and way too many anti-heroes with dark powers who have good or neutral paths in the Lit-RPG genre.

Love this protagonist

Ruthless and well thought out. The narrator is my only quarrel. While he is talented, I don’t feel he fit the MC very well. It needs a darker touch. But I can get past that. The story is well worth it.

I enjoyed the new addition

My only hope is that he stays true to a villainous path. The dilemma of morality and his future was good fuel for the story but I worry my favorite revenant might tread a lighter path over time. Please keep him “evil” and self-serving. You have an awesome opportunity to add an “evil triumphs over good” ending with this story and defy the norm of so many LitRPG’s in the genre. As of now I’m still quite entertained albeit weary of the next installment. Regardless, the writing was well done in my opinion. Best wishes Mr. Karevak.

A wonderfully done dark MC who sticks to his principles in brutal fashion. The writing was well done and highly entertaining. I’m eager to hear more from this author and of this series as it’s easily made it into my Top 5 favorite LitRPG’s. Well done job by the narrator as well.

I’m really struggling. While I like some of the concepts and systems presented, but the cheesiness is hard to get through. The humor is childish. The MC feels pompous and unintelligent. Corny, high school dialogue constantly ruins so many moments. Not a huge fan of the narrator either, though that could be partially from the writing he has to work with. I’ll finish out the book but I’m not confident I’ll get the next one. I hate leaving bad reviews but man this is a rough journey. Never rolled my eyes so much in a LitRPG before.

Update: It got a little better about halfway through, but only by a little bit. I’m on the fence for book two.
