Historia
There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

Good story

This was a fast paced mystery; I liked the characters but not sure I bought the motive for the murder. 3.5-3.75 stars for me

Good story
Revisado: 03-10-25
This was a good start to the series. The characters were interesting, there was courtroom drama, and the mystery went in a direction I totally did not foresee. I probably will check out more in the series; the narration was also good.

Historia
Tucked away in Siberia, there are furry, four-legged creatures with wagging tails and floppy ears that are as docile and friendly as any lapdog. But, despite appearances, these are not dogs - they are foxes. They are the result of the most astonishing experiment in breeding ever undertaken - imagine speeding up thousands of years of evolution into a few decades. In 1959, biologists Dmitri Belyaev and Lyudmila Trut set out to do just that, by starting with a few dozen silver foxes from fox farms in the USSR and attempting to recreate the evolution of wolves into dogs in real time.

Interesting experiment
Revisado: 02-07-25
This was a 3.5 for me. I listened on audio and found the process of taming the foxes interesting; it helped me understand the domestication of dogs. However, the book danced around the ethical issues associated with this; I feel this should have been addressed as part of the story.

Ozarck story
Revisado: 02-03-25
This was the first book I read that described the people and surroundings of the Ozarcks. The writing was good and the descriptions of nature and humans were well done. Solid story that showed the extent of familial and other relationships in this part of the country. The narration was also quite good.

Historia
In 10 lectures, award-winning historian Patrick N. Allitt transports listeners to England in the 1840s and 1850s. During those two decades, Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, became one of the most influential people in the country and remains a figure of fascination even today. In fact, the British royal family as we know it wouldn't exist without the private and public actions of this detached, impartial, and upright political figure.

I didn't realize how influential Prince Albert was during his brief life, and the impact he had on the monarchy. This was easy to listen to and was the right length for the subject matter.

Historia
Half-Korean, half-Japanese, Masaji Ishikawa has spent his whole life feeling like a man without a country. This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. But the reality of their new life was far from utopian.

This was an interesting memoir. This is the first first-hand account I’ve read of life in North Korea; it was eye opening and informative. It was heartbreaking to read if the deplorable conditions the author and his family faced.
