Historia
Persephone Wilder, a displaced genius posing as the wife of an American diplomat in Namibia, takes her job as a representative of her country seriously and comes up with an intricate set of rules to survive a range of problems: how to dress in hundred-degree weather without showing too much skin, how not to look drunk at embassy functions, and how to eat roasted oryx with grace. She also suspects her husband is not actually the ambassador’s general counsel but instead a secret agent in the CIA. She takes the new trailing spouse, Amanda Evans, under her wing....

Narrator should have done some more research.
Revisado: 06-06-23
The story was entertaining enough, if predictable. The problem was with the narrator who couldn't apparently pronounce Windhoek correctly. As a South African I couldn't figure out when she was speaking Afrikaans, and had to rely on the English translations. Though admittedly she did get some words spot on.

Historia
Cal Hooper thought a fixer-upper in a remote Irish village would be the perfect escape. After 25 years in the Chicago police force and a bruising divorce, he just wants to build a new life in a pretty spot with a good pub where nothing much happens. But then a local kid comes looking for his help. His brother has gone missing and no one, least of all the police, seems to care. Cal wants nothing to do with any kind of investigation, but somehow he can't make himself walk away.

The writing was not memorable in any way, the plot line had no interesting twists and turns and the characters were not well developed. I just kept wishing it would hurry up and finish.
the narrater did an acceptable job, although his accents got muddled occasionally.

Historia
In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees in Sussex when a young woman literally stumbles onto him on the Sussex Downs. Fifteen years old, gawky, egotistical, and recently orphaned, the young Mary Russell displays an intellect to impress even Sherlock Holmes. Under his reluctant tutelage, this very modern, twentieth-century woman proves a deft protégée and a fitting partner for the Victorian detective.

An admirable attempt at Holmes but another miss...
Revisado: 10-04-20
The overall plot wasn't bad. I didn't think that the nature of Sherlock Holmes was fully captured; there were elements of him in the deductions made and the sneaking about but the character sounded wrong. The protagonist was a young woman so one may say that it isn't essential but if one is going to put such a character in to a book they should at least sound right. This was exacerbated by the rather odd male voice that the narrator did for Holmes, though she did excellent voices for other characters and the main narration.

Why is one book two credits?
Revisado: 09-02-20
Wodehouse is my favourite author, Martin Jarvis does a great job. I object to being forced to waste 2 credits on a single book just so that audible can make even more money off us.

Historia
It is the autumn of 1880, and Dr. John Watson has just returned from Afghanistan. Badly injured and desperate to forget a nightmarish expedition that left him doubting his sanity, Watson is close to destitution when he meets the extraordinary Sherlock Holmes, who is investigating a series of deaths in the Shadwell district of London. Several bodies have been found, the victims appearing to have starved to death over the course of several weeks, and yet they were reported alive and well mere days before.

Can't finish it
Revisado: 09-01-20
I've got about half way through and I can get no further. Surprisingly the author manages to get some of the air of Holmes in the story, so not irredeemable, but the fantasy aspect oddly done.

Historia
Not long after her parents' separation, heralded by an awkward scene involving a wet Daily Telegraph and a pan of cold eggs, nine-year-old Lizzie Vogel, her sister and little brother and their now-divorcée mother are packed off to a small, slightly hostile village in the English countryside. Their mother is all alone, only 31 years of age, with three young children and a Labrador. It is no wonder, when you put it like that, that she becomes a menace and a drunk. And a playwright.

The title says it all
Revisado: 08-16-20
Why does a woman need a man at the helm? I though that this book would be satirical, amusing, entertaining, but not that it would come to the conclusion that a woman actually needs a man at the helm and can't be alone, I am bitterly disappointed. The performance was excellent, she did the different voices beautifully.

The protagonist was unlikely.
Revisado: 04-23-20
I just can't bring myself to finish it... the main character acted in a way that was unlike any woman I've ever met and if a psychologist acted that way she deserved to lose her licence. The narrator is excellent.
