It was so fun to hear the author speak on her work! I love this series and love it even more knowing where her thoughts were formed!

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Quirky love story with real life tones
Revisado: 08-15-24
Lily Chu never disappoints. I appreciate that she tackled tough subjects that a lot of us deal with, like heavy emotions, family drama, inequality at work, and the loss of a friend. Even with all that, Lily Chu still created a strong love story that I couldn’t stop listening to. Also, it sounded like the narrators had fun with this read, which always makes for a good listen. John Chu has such a calming voice, and Philips Soo’s upbeat delivery kept me engaged. Fun all around! Thank you!

Historia
Harnessing planetary forces, Terramancers shape landscapes and avert natural disasters. But not this one. He collects rocks. Out of a job and on the run from his rainbow-haired adversary, the Terramancer is ready to jump to the next system and start again. Again. It’s not his fault he’s made more enemies than friends. Cutthroat pirates, ruthless socialites, and the ancient and powerful Terramantic Order all stand between him and escape. When he finds the most sought-after rock in the universe, it’s one problem he can’t get away from—the rock, it seems, has been waiting for him.

Not a fan of the virtual voice.
Revisado: 08-04-24
Fun adventure story overall. I’m a fan of rocks, so it’s fun to have a rock as a character. I’m not a fan of the virtual voice. Conversations were really difficult to follow. The virtual voice did not change inflection, and did not say “he/she/they said”. So it’s difficult to know who’s talking. When a person reads dialog they pitch their voice, virtual voice doesn’t do that. I’ll be avoiding virtual voiced books now, not sure why audible is taking that road.

One of the best series I’ve listened to so far!
Revisado: 04-14-24
What a beautiful ending to a rollercoaster of emotions! This series made me feel all the feels. I’ve cried, laughed, been frustrated then relieved, I’ve even found myself saying out loud things like “you tell ‘em!” And “oh no she didn’t!” Lol I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this story line. Very much recommend and looking forward to reading other works from this author. Also, the narration was impeccable! She did many different voices that sounded exactly how I imagined the characters would sound. She even sang beautifully in one part. I found this series by searching for the narrator. Can’t wait to listen to other works she’s done! Thank you all for an amazing listening experience!

Trigger warning, assault content
Revisado: 04-04-24
I LOVED the first books in this series, but this one was really tough to get through. Spoiler: There is a brutally detailed assault on a main character and more than half of the book references it over and over and over again. I really struggled listening to it drag on and on, so much so that I fast forwarded through parts and sped up the audio to push through. The resolution at the end was barely 2 chapters, I do believe this would have been a better story of overcoming sexual assault if we had focused on the overcoming part, rather than the repeatedly diving into despair. That being said, I’m definitely still a fan of this series and listening to the last book asap. But, this one was not as good as the others, by a large margin.

Historia
For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.) Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too.

Fun twists!
Revisado: 11-14-23
This story was a blast to listen to. I caught myself saying out loud “oh no she didn’t!” Or “he won’t get away with that!” Lol The love story wasn’t too in your face, but balanced with the main character and others facing real world problems, very relatable. Lily Chu’s commentary on issues in todays workforce, is very modern. She doesn’t gloss over racism/sexism; she tells it how it really is. Totally recommend.

This book is such fun!
Revisado: 12-31-22
The narration is fantastic! The subtle changes in her voice for internal monologue was spot on, the conversation scenes were seamless, and her pace was easy to follow. The plot line was fun and exciting! Twists and turns, some things I was like ooooo I know who it is! and other plot points I was surprised by. Overall, great fun mystery book to listen to. Thanks to all who made this possible!
