Historia
Five years after The Final Day, the Republic of New America has all but collapsed into regional powers and the world at large is struggling to remain stable as regional conflicts ravage the post EMP landscape. After several years attempting to lead a quiet life, John Matherson receives the news that the President is dying from a possible assassination attempt, and is asked to step in to negotiate with what appears to be a new military power hidden in the wreckage of the world. Pulled back into the fray, John struggles to hold the tottering Republic together.

Good story, overacted by the narrator.
Revisado: 08-30-23
Really enjoyed this series overall and was looking forward to the final audiobook. The story itself was very good with the finale being a tad implausible. The real letdown here was the narration. Pinchot overacted most of the book and gave an over the top performance in the dialogue between the characters. He went too angry almost all of the time which in my opinion shows a lazy, one dimensional characterization of the main players in this story. It doesn’t ruin the audiobook but it does make for a LOT of cringeworthy and almost unlistenable parts, but I think the story was good enough to outweigh Pinchot’s performance. It wasn’t all bad, but the parts that were bad, were pretty bad. Overall I would recommend it with this caveat going into it.

Historia
Life has a way of provoking us with traffic jams and computer malfunctions, with emotionally distant partners and crying children—and before we know it, we're upset. We feel terrible, and then we end up saying and doing things that only make matters worse. But it doesn't have to be that way, says Pema Chödrön. It is possible to relate constructively to the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of life so that we can find true happiness. The key, Pema explains, is not biting the "hook" of our habitual responses.

The cure for so many problems humans cause.
Revisado: 04-10-22
First off, Pema Chodron is a treasure to humanity, really to the planet. Stephen Covey is quoted as saying, “Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.” If you approach this audiobook, which is really just a long dharma talk, this way, you may miss the overall point. Also, there is nothing wrong with using what you understand and find useful, and discarding the rest. The listener should take their time and absorb what she is saying and practice it. Anger truly is an unnecessary emotion that is at the root of so many of the problems we humans face, and cause the rest of the planet, and everyone and everything on it. My opinion is that this is a very profound and useful talk that we should all listen to and practice.
Buy it, download it, listen to it, and put it into practice. One thing Pema says early on in her talk is to "Listen with curious open-mindedness, not pessimism." Sage advice.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

More Like a 6 Hour Podcast
Revisado: 02-06-19
Really like what Amazon is onto with this style of "audiobook." This isn't an audiobook in the traditional sense, and you won't find a hardcopy or e-book version of Evil Has a Name, rather this audiobook is more like a 6 hour podcast. Great mix of witness/victim interviews, as well as the actual law enforcement professionals who worked the case. Great story in a great format, looking forward to more like this.
