Very creepy computer narration
Revisado: 04-22-24
I would skip this one. The narration is creeoy as it's a computer rather than a person. I thought their suggestions were condescending and weird. Fir insrance, there was little thought about people's lives differing. Who needs four church outfits? What is a church outfit? Very traditional christian perspective which is particularly off-putting given the hateful nationalistic, on-the-road to fascist trends seen so often these days.

Historia
Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very lives we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Some good information
Revisado: 08-23-19
I liked the book generally. Not as much detail as I would have liked about how to do this. I was not at all a fan of the religious take on everything. I thought that was immaterial to the content as well. "God" has no stake in our stuff, I'm sure.

Historia
Brain over Binge provides both a gripping personal account and an informative scientific perspective on bulimia and binge eating disorder. The author, Kathryn Hansen, candidly shares her experience as a bulimic and her alternative approach to recovery. Brain over Binge is different from other eating disorder books which typically present binge eating and purging as symptoms of complex emotional and psychological problems.

Some good information/ideas, needs a good editor
Revisado: 12-19-18
The author has some good ideas about how to apply new learnings about brain science to address life issues. There is a decidedly negative analysis of most other approaches and a very simplistic presentation of a "magic bullet" solution she suggests will work for anyone and everyone. She presents what worked for her as the one true, final fix for binge eating.
There is little acknowledgment that the contributing issues differ among those who binge. There is also a very simplistic idea, essentially - "just don't do it" - presented as the solution. Just don't binge and you will be cured. It sounds a bit like "just don't drink" and your alcohol issues will be resolved. I've known dry drunks who "just stopped" who are little better off than they were while drinking.
I think there is some good information here, but much of the content negatively targets other methods and repeats the same conclusion repeatedly - "I just chose not to binge. I was cured. I know I will never binge again."
The material is very repetitive and the narration uninteresting. There were also issues with skipping and pausing. A good editor and re-recording would improve the book greatly.

Historia
Although clinical research has been conducted on narcissism as a disorder, less is known about its effects on victims who are in toxic relationships with partners with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

This book needs an a good editor!
Revisado: 07-16-18
I found this book - as much as I could bear to listen to - to have good information. However, by chapter four, I had wondered if I had somehow returned to the beginning at least ten times. The first three chapters could easily be just one. This did not seem to improve as I continued to listen; the book is very unnecessarily repetitive. I will see if someone has written a summary of the book.
Several times, just as I thought she would provide a list of helpful ideas, she referred me to the website instead. She does include very detailed URL information. She often quotes others' works, and it gets very confusing what is her work and what is others'.
Additionally, I found her tone unnecessarily condescending and angry. She seems to have a lot of anger still to resolve. Of course, there is much to be angry about, but I think it undermines her authority here.
That said, there is a lot of good information here if you can invest the time and tease it out.

Historia
In his recovery from drugs and alcohol, Chris Grosso has stumbled, staggered, and started all over again. In an effort to understand why he relapses, and why many of us return to the myriad of other self-defeating behaviors despite our better judgment, he went to best-selling authors, spiritual teachers, psychologists, doctors, and more, and asked them why we tend to repeat mistakes in our lives, even when we know these actions will harm us and the ones we love. In Dead Set on Living, Chris shares these intimate conversations and the practices that have taught him.

Great material but unnecessarily crude language
Revisado: 05-23-18
Interesting with a lot of good interviews and ideas about getting and living well sober. My one complaint is that the language is unnecessarily crude with many F%$*^! bombs throughout - as if that means his experience was the worst of the worst compared with everyone else's. It was hard to distinguish his words from some of his great experts which left me wondering if most of the spiritual leaders I admire also speak as crudely when not overhead.
Other than that, good information. I am not convinced his addictive behavior was so much worse than everyone else's experience. Active addiction is painful to all involved and I see no reason to make it a competition.

Very Disappointing - Don't bother
Revisado: 02-15-18
What disappointed you about Stop Saying You're Fine?
The information is really a rehash of other folks' work with some self-aggrandizing stories thrown in. The language and presentation are geared toward folks with a middle school mentality - educationally and emotionally. It's a sort of locker-room version of the information really. I found the presentation very uneven and unnecessarily aggressive, a bit insulting really.
Has Stop Saying You're Fine turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. I just don't like the tone and presentation of this book.

We seek solace from our suffering and look for wisdom outside the confines of dogma, but soon we're drowning in vague spiritual lingo - intention, higher self, attraction, vibration - that's poetry at best and manipulation at worst. Mastin Kipp offers no fancy degrees, just his life and his scars, which form a roadmap to help guide you through the uncertainty that lies ahead, marking where the cliffs are slippery, where the sun burns hot - and where Grace blossoms.

Not impressed
Revisado: 06-11-15
What was most disappointing about Mastin Kipp’s story?
This seems like an exercise in name dropping and woe is me... All these famouse, rich people then helped me out. I don't think it really offered much information really. Not worth the money or point.
