Honesty, I’d love to give this full marks, but there’s a missing chunk between where the Wolf Pack is looking for Fin and suddenly he’s already there. Don’t know who’s fault it is (could be a glitch in Audible) but I can’t give five stars for that.

I hate present tense writing

It doesn’t matter if the writing is first or third person, present tense writing is unpleasant to listen to. It doesn’t help that the narrator seams disinterested. I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish it.

i really like the book, however if i had one complaint it was how often the characters, specifically gabe gets lucky in the books. if it was attributed more to skill, or his magic, i could be happy with that, but this guy gets unconventionally lucky in all of his battles.

dont get me wrong this is a great book with awesome characters and a fun plot, witty banter, and a great performance. i just thought i would put in my 2 cents for what thats worth

More than World Building

My review on the first book mentioned the amount of effort the author put into how the world worked. While he continued to put more details into his world, he also expanded the growth of his characters.

One of my favorite parts of any great novels is how much effort the author put into designing how the world works. This series defines almost all of how its magic works rather than a swish and flick of a wand.

I did enjoy the story, hell it's based on one of my all time favorite movies and they mostly kept to the story, but the orator left something to be desired since I couldn't always tell who he was trying to portray.

Too Much Luck

The book wasn't bad by any means, but there were only two main parts that didn't have luck be the driving force. If something good happened, it was mostly because of good luck. If something terrible happens, guess what bad luck. It also felt too short; I didn't have any time to get attached to anyone.

This series is among my top three favorites. One of my others is also by Jim. He has an impressive ability to drag you in and keep you interested throughout the entire series, even through the mundane pieces. This particular book is the most emotional of the series and it brings you close to all of the main characters.

A New Experience

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shane goes through torment I can scarcely imagine but is still able to stay strong for his children.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the very last scene, not because it gave me any good feelings, but because it was able to catch me completely off guard.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It didn't make me cry, but it certainly didn't help me sleep at night. I'm just glad I moved out of my parents house and that I'm not yet a parent myself. I am not going to read this book after I have children.

Any additional comments?

I met Michaelbrent Collings at a convention in Idaho where he was hosting a discussion on zombies. After the discussion I got to talk with him about his books, and he turned me on to Apparition. Now, I had never listened/read any of his books before I had met him, so I was thoroughly impressed when I found out he was able to write a book that can spook me for the first time. I can't wait for another book of this caliber.
