Historia
Mrs. Packington felt alone, helpless, and utterly forlorn. But her life changed when she stumbled upon an advertisement in the Times that read: "Are you happy? If not, consult Mr. Parker Pyne." Equally adept at putting together the fragments of a murder mystery or the pieces of a broken marriage, Mr. Parker Pyne is possibly the world's most unconventional private investigator. Armed with just his intuitive knowledge of human nature, he is an Englishman abroad, traveling the globe to solve and undo crime and misdemeanor.

But they are out of luck. An unexpected visitor—an old pal of Elizabeth’s (or perhaps more than just a pal?)—arrives, desperate for her help. He has been accused of stealing diamonds worth millions from the wrong men and he’s seriously on the lam.

Enjoyable, even the second time.
Revisado: 02-09-23
Watching the characters lives progress from the first story and becoming better acquainted with them is delightful. I feel silly because of my audible exclamations and giggles. I really enjoy and appreciate the real humorous and touching life moments Richard Osman’s writing brings to mind. I sometimes wish there was more distinction between some of the voices, it is so well written there is no real confusion as to who is speaking.

Historia
Death and decapitation seem to go hand in hand in the Devon village of Aller. When the first victim's head is sent floating down the river, the village's rural calm is shattered. Soon the corpses are multiplying and the entire community is involved in the murder hunt. While the rector, the major, the police and a journalist, desperate for the scoop of the century, chase false trails, it is left to Gervase Fen, Oxford don and amateur criminologist, to uncover the sordid truth.

One of my favorite books
Revisado: 05-10-18
I need/enjoy books that are interesting and intelligent, but not too suspenseful or exciting. (Real life has enough drama.) I thoroughly enjoy listening to the characters in this story go about their everyday lives while the murder is solved as one of several intertwined themes. The characters and their experiences are very engaging.
The humor is subtle. "I do irritate people, I talk too much for one thing. Now, as I was saying..."

Historia
The idyll of Blandings Castle is about to be disturbed, for the Hon. Freddie Threepwood is poised to make his debut as a jewel thief. Freddie, however, is not alone: Blandings is simply brimming with criminals and impostors all intent on stealing Aunt Constance's 20,000 pound diamond necklace. It is left to the debonair Psmith, with his usual aplomb, to unscramble the passion, problems, and identities, of one and all.

When attractive American Jacqueline Kirby is invited to an English country mansion for a weekend costume affair, she expects only one mystery. Since the hosts and guests are all fanatic devotees of King Richard III, they hope to clear his name of the 500-year-old accusation that he killed the little princes in the Tower of London. Jacqueline is amused by the group's eccentricities until history begins to repeat itself.

Good for driving
Revisado: 04-20-07
The plot is pretty good--you can see partial solutions then another twist comes. I did not think the narration was very good. The speaker was clear, but the characterizations were distracting rather than enhancing. Also, my recording had a number of skips. They were short enough (I think) that they did not affect the story, but they were annoying.

Historia
All the zany Wodehouse characters are here: Bertie, Gussie Fink-Nottle, Madeline Bassett, and Aunt Dahlia. All the humorous chaos of misunderstandings, puns, and pranks are present: someone must hand out prizes at the Market Snodsbury Grammar School, a lovers' spat finds Bertie engaged to Madeline, and a hunger strike causes the cook to give notice. The inevitable rescue by Jeeves, brilliantly conceived and executed, averts disaster and saves nitwit Bertie Wooster.

Mediocre performance
Revisado: 03-26-07
This is one of the great “Bertie and Jeeves” novels by Wodehouse, but the production does not do it justice. The narrator often uses the wrong voices for the character who is suposed to be talking. Sometimes he corrects it part-way through the line, sometime he charges on. I am disappointed they did not do another take and correct these errors. They are pretty obvious, and they detract much from the story. On a personal preference, I thought the characterizations missed the mark but others might think they are accurate. I much preferred the audio files once available that were narrated by Frederick Davidson. They were read accurately and, to me, the voices were right on the mark.
To summarize, the story is 5 stars, the production is 1 star for voice and direction, and 5 stars for technical quality. Overall, a 3.

A small town in North Carolina is shaken when an 11-year-old girl is brutally murdered. In this crime, forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta sees eerie and disturbing echoes of a serial killer's work. Kay irritates me
Revisado: 04-26-04
I get pulled in to these books hoping Scarpetta will grow up. She makes poor judgments and takes questionable risks, while scolding everyone else in her patronizing manner (she's a doctor, you know). She expects everyone to follow her rules, except herself. The recording was clear. The narration was slow and deliberate. The protagonist is annoying enough to keep me alert during my commute.
