Historia
1970s, Southern Alabama. Sixty-two-year-old Jeremiah Lewis Taylor, or “Nub,” has spent his whole life listening to those he loves tell him he’s no good—first his ex-wife, now his always-disapproving daughter. Sure, his escapades have made him, along with his cousin and perennial sidekick, Benny, just a smidge too familiar with small-town law enforcement, but he’s never harmed anyone—except perhaps himself.

I normally do not like when the author reads the book but this time I loved the book because the author was the narrator

confused on how the ratings are so high
Revisado: 10-10-23
I thought the narrators were great. The story was extremely predictable and extremely wordy. It will be a story that I forget by next week. How is this a nearly 5 star book? Do people erase the bad reviews? Surely I am not the only one who "endured" to the end

Historia
The Roaring Twenties—the Jazz Age—has been characterized as a time of Gatsby frivolity. But it was also the height of the uniquely American hate group, the Ku Klux Klan. Their domain was not the old Confederacy, but the Heartland and the West. They hated Blacks, Jews, Catholics and immigrants in equal measure, and took radical steps to keep these people from the American promise. And the man who set in motion their takeover of great swaths of America was a charismatic charlatan named D.C. Stephenson.

This story needs to be never ever forgotten
Revisado: 09-02-23
Anything Timothy Egan writes, in my opinion, is so worth reading. One note though, is I wish I had read the book, I had to repeat so many times to catch all of it. That is my only negative thing to say.

I loved the different characters in the story. The readers voices really added to the times, area, and personalities.
It was also nice not listening to the same voice for the entire book.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Historia
Terry Crews spent decades cultivating his bodybuilder physique and bravado. On the outside, he seemed invincible: he escaped his abusive father, went pro in the NFL, and broke into the glamorous world of Hollywood. But his fixation with appearing outwardly tough eventually turned into an exhausting performance in which repressing his emotions let them get the better of him—leading him into addiction and threatening the most important relationships in his life. Now Crews is sharing the raw, never-before-told story of his quest to find the true meaning of toughness.

loved this book. but with one small criticism
Revisado: 10-08-22
I loved the honesty of this story of Terry Crews.
Terry does a great job 'performing' his story.
The only problem I had in the WHOLE book was when he talks about Obama being voted in by black people, after saying how much of a minority the black community is. It took a lot of other people of a lot of different colors, to vote Obama in. That was the only problem I had with his thought processes.
A good story!

A Clear Thought
Revisado: 06-24-22
Jeanine, when Gary Gilmore was given the death penalty and wanted to be executed there was a huge book written about him, and later a movie made. The day he was executed was a sad day BECAUSE of the MEDIA and their agenda to soften our hearts towards him.
Jeanine, my eyes are now wide opened. Thank you for your words and thoughts and FACTS to make me see CLEARLY, to pay attention to the facts that puts these men away.
Moving forward I will always think of the victims and their families when I hear of another death penalty or execution by the state.
thank you for your book
