Historia
The world is no longer safe for the Dragon Rider Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. An evil king has been toppled, and they are left to face the consequences of the reluctant role they played in his reign of terror. Now they are hated and alone, exiled to the outskirts of society. Throughout the land, hushed voices whisper of brittle ground and a faint scent of brimstone in the air—and Murtagh senses that something wicked lurks in the shadows of Alagaësia. So begins an epic journey into lands both familiar and untraveled.

So well-voiced I wept. Twice.
Revisado: 04-18-24
I don't really have the time to sit and read like I would love to do. But I spend a bit of time on the road. I started listening to Gerard Doyle read Eragon 2 months ago, and I'm so in love with all of these characters. I have read (listened to) portions of them multiple times, and I can't get enough. **Spoilers** When Murtagh lost consciousness on Thorn, and the music started, I was convinced he had died and I wept. I cried for Thorn and his lost rider. I cried for Nasuada and her lost love. I cried for all of the characters that I knew love Murtagh, in spite of his flaws, Utvek, Eragon and Saphira included. And then the music ended and Murtagh awoke to Nasuada. Wow. Thank you for this audio recording. Just perfectly done.

Great story
Revisado: 01-03-18
The story was great, but the narrative was a bit of an issue. There is quite a bit of whispering in the story, and it was so low I couldn't hear it. When I turned it up to hear, the next part where he was just speaking was way too loud and hurt my ears.

Big Fan of Kellerman, but....
Revisado: 12-01-17
Ever since I discovered Kellerman, I have loved his writing. I enjoyed 2 books late in the series, and decided to start from the beginning and read the Alex Delaware novels in the order they were written. They have all been hard to put down. All except this one. This was the slowest, most dragging novel of his that I have ever read. Lots of characters, but no real connections between them. I think being forced to read The Red Pony by Steinbeck in school compares to the tone of this one. It just kind of ambles, with very little excitement that I have come to expect from Kellerman.
I had read the reviews before buying, but decided I would give Kellerman the benefit of the doubt, and read through it. Especially since I was reading them in order. I can now say that I read it once, and do not intend to read it again.
For all Kellerman fans out there: skip this one.

Absolutely fantastic
Revisado: 09-25-17
I had seen the movie as a teenager, but I decided to get this novel, as a way of trying out Stephen King and seeing if I like his writing. This book was fantastic. So many things intermingled and woven together to create a magical, yet still believable world. I find it incredible that he can tie up all of the loose ends to this story, but still leave the reader wondering.
This is not a novel in the standard sense, but a series of episodes that were published separately. Like a TV show with cliffhangers, the end of each makes you want to keep going. There isn't a section of the episode where the narrator starts "Last time on the Green Mile..." like so many sitcoms. Instead the nods to the prior section are woven into the story, and do not hamper the narrative at all.
The narrator chosen was absolutely perfect. I live in the southern United States, and this story is set in Georgia. The narrator has the perfect blend of southern pronunciation without it being a sappy drawl that is so obviously faked. He reads slowly, but that is very reminiscent of the 1930s as well as the South in general. If you can't stand that, I think there's a setting in the app where you can speed up narration.
I can't stress enough how much I enjoyed this book. Like savoring a good and tender steak, I will be spending some time chewing on the story, and it will probably be a little while before I start another one.

Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

My first Stephen King, but not my last!
Revisado: 09-19-17
I finished this one in about a week, which is saying something, considering it's 1153 pages long!
If you've never read it before, following along with the audio can be a challenge. The author likes to jump abruptly from the past to the present, but using the same characters. This creates a challenge to keep up with whether he's telling us about the characters as adults or children. I'm sure this is intentional as a means of adding to the tension created by the book, but it threw me a lot. I think reading it on paper would help with that.

Historia
We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.

Eye-opening Revelation!
Revisado: 12-30-16
I'm not sure how much I believe the 4% figure, but for the remaining part of this book, I think it is spot on! I have a budding interest in psychology, & I am considering going back to school for a degree. Reading this book showed me just how interesting the science could be. The case studies were interesting and understandable as well as being realistic. Based on our culture, we are taught that all sociopaths are violent killers with no conscience, but this is not true. I understand now that this label could apply to so many people in my life, that I have never felt quite right about. This book is a must-read for anyone living in our fast-paced dog-eat-dog world.

Not your average Delaware novel
Revisado: 12-19-16
I suppose Kellerman was still learning what readers wanted at the time he was writing this one. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the typical murder, cop banter, and casting out wild suppositions between Milo and Alex. Normally, the victims aren't very fleshed-out and even though they get a pretty good understanding of them, they don't always understand the victim's psyche. That was a nice addition to this book, really getting to know the characters. Normally, I can tell from early which direction the book is going, but not with this one. I knew a few things, but there were plenty of twists and surprises.
This was the second I've listened to with this narrator, and while I've gotten used to Alexander Adams, he's still not my favorite. The way he pronounces certain words irritates me. Like putting a long I sound in "short-lived," it just didn't sit right with me. I could have chosen to go with the other Audible version of this book, but it was abridged, and I didn't want to sacrifice parts of the story just because of the narration.

Historia
A new patient, 24-year-old Lucy Lowell, has come to the semi-retired psychologist Alex Delaware, straight from the jury of a serial killer's grisly trial. The trial was harrowing enough, but now it's triggered a recurring and haunting dream in which Lucy, as a little girl, watches a gang of men bury a young woman's body in the woods.

Fantastic, but poorly narrated
Revisado: 11-29-16
I thought the book was fantastic as are most Kellerman novels but I was not a fan of the narration. The narrator's voice was very sharp and was a bit challenging to listen to for me. I listen while I am driving, and my truck makes a lot of noise. For this reason I have to listen to the books at a high volume. This narrator's sharp voice made me wince at times, which may not be an issue for others who don't have to listen to the books at such a high volume.
As usual, I thought the story was fantastic. There were several times when I could follow the bread crumbs a little easier than Alex, but that still didn't detract from the story making twists and turns I did not expect.

Too much cut out
Revisado: 02-17-16
I loved that it was Chronological, but there is so much missing. The performance was well done, and it was easy to understand. But I found myself saying, "Where is Job?" "What about Zacchaeus?"
I did hear things that I have previously missed, though, so it was nice to listen to. I figured they had trimmed away the bits about the Tabernacle and the sacrifices (which they did) and that I was fine with, but the entire law is missing, too. I guess all they found important was the Ten Commandments. I was also disappointed in the Psalms and Proverbs. about 75% was ignored. I can't say that I will listen to it again, since I have started the full Bible now.
