Welcome to the genre, Zachariah
Revisado: 07-25-23
I loved this book enough to also buy the audiobook. It was the perfect length for a typical trip to the Cities and back for me (about 3 hours each way).
This book was fun, energetic, mysterious, suspenseful, nostalgic, and easy to read. The style of writing and descriptions of 1924 brings the reader on a nostalgic journey where what is predictable, and what isn't, plays out at just the right moments.
Zach wrote with a purpose and moves the story along at a decent pace. In doing so, it is easy for readers to follow along, especially younger (but not too young) readers. There are some moments of gore, duress, and mature content that may be inappropriate for little ears. That being said, he addresses some very heavy topics either metaphorically or at a level that does not intimidate readers.
I'm excited for the next book to be out and can't wait to follow Jarek on this next adventure out to the beautiful state of South Dakota.

Historia
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

heartbreaking story with a frustrating plot
Revisado: 08-31-22
I struggled to finish this one. I mow every day for about 6 hours and I started this one day and finished it the next. I don't know if I would have finished it had I have been reading a physical book.

Historia
Two estranged sisters, Lillian and Adelia, struggle to come to terms after the mother they've believed to be dead for the past 15 years actually passes away. Confused and in shock, they travel together to the isolated village of their childhood to claim the farm that was passed on to them. There’s comfort in returning to this place of their birth, where a simpler, rustic life feels possible - but the sisters quickly realize that something is very wrong with the village and that their mother was hiding more than they could have ever imagined.

Nice quick read
Revisado: 08-28-21
I really liked this, but feel a bit disappointed. I enjoyed the build up, adventure of traveling in and out of the ring. However, for me it peaked (ha...mountain pun) for me after the sister shares her nightmare. After the nightmare, I felt like the story was rushed to get to the point and conclude. I would have enjoyed more attention in the meat and potatoes.

Really cheesy
Revisado: 02-04-21
In the beginning it admits to being very cheesy. This book reminds me of the Shia video of him saying to "just go do it!" good advice in getting up and not being lazy when chasing goals. Actual advice of how to go about it is "figure it out you big rhino you". Either way, it's a good hype book.

Always a fan of Cussler. A balance of predictability and twists. On to the next in the series!
