I’m so glad someone wrote about this topic
Revisado: 01-17-25
Kudos to the author for doing the research and bringing this information to public light. “Spotify is the worst” is no hot new take, but I feel like this book highlighted that it is somehow even worse than we ever thought.

Historia
In The Small and the Mighty, Sharon McMahon proves that the most remarkable Americans are often ordinary people who didn’t make it into the textbooks. Not the presidents, but the telephone operators. Not the aristocrats, but the schoolteachers. Through meticulous research, she discovers history’s unsung characters and brings their rich, riveting stories to light for the first time.

Super digestible and interesting to listen to. The author did an amazing job. My household is now a Sharon McMahon household. We look forward to reading more from her.

Historia
The anti-busing riots of 1974 forever changed Southie, Boston's working-class Irish community, branding it as a violent, racist enclave. Michael Patrick MacDonald grew up in Southie's Old Colony housing project. He describes the way this world within a world felt to the troubled yet keenly gifted observer he was even as a child. But the threats - poverty, drugs, a shadowy gangster world - were real. All Souls is heartbreaking testimony to lives lost too early, and the story of how a place so filled with pain could still be "the best place in the world".

Fantastic read. Enlightening.
Revisado: 12-03-24
Being a young person in New England and only having heard one or two vague stories about the “combat zone” , this was the first time that I heard anyone’s account in detail about life in South Boston during the racial conflict. Definitely worth the read. What an inspiring individual the author is. A shining example of perseverance.

In 2017, author Shanna Swan and her team of researchers completed a major study. They found that over the past four decades, sperm levels among men in Western countries have dropped by more than 50 percent. They came to this conclusion after examining 185 studies involving close to 45,000 healthy men. The result sent shockwaves around the globe - but the story didn’t end there.

Extremely informational

It almost reads as a textbook for the majority, but it is a very important book and I hope that it’s read by the masses.

Historia
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.

Revisado: 05-22-24
I think that the author should have had someone else narrate because she was quite breathy, but this book is very helpful. I appreciate the fact that she updated it for modern times.

Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Revisado: 09-22-23

I saw the movies as a child in 1990 and just now got around to the book. 10/10

Historia
When you listen to music, do you prefer lyrics or melody? Intricate harmonies or driving rhythm? The “real” sounds of acoustic instruments or those of computerized synthesizers? Drawing from her successful career as a music producer (engineering hits like Prince’s “Purple Rain”), professor of cognitive neuroscience Susan Rogers reveals why your favorite songs move you. She explains that we each possess a unique “listener profile” based on our brain’s reaction to seven key dimensions of any record: authenticity, realism, novelty, melody, lyrics, rhythm, and timbre.

Historia
The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a small but precisely targeted push cause a fashion trend, the popularity of a new product, or a drop in the crime rate. This widely acclaimed bestseller, in which Malcolm Gladwell explores and brilliantly illuminates the tipping point phenomenon, is already changing the way people throughout the world think about selling products and disseminating ideas.

I love Malcolm Gladwell books
Revisado: 02-23-23
He always presents the information in such a way that interests you in stories you would not have any reason to pay attention to, but that all fit the theme. The level of research involved in making these books is unreal.
