Historia
In The Madness of Crowds Douglas Murray investigates the dangers of ‘woke’ culture and the rise of identity politics. In lively, razor-sharp prose he examines the most controversial issues of our moment: sexuality, gender, technology and race, with interludes on the Marxist foundations of ‘wokeness’, the impact of tech and how, in an increasingly online culture, we must relearn the ability to forgive.

stunning and brave /s
Revisado: 10-17-19
seriously though; marvellous exposé of the challenges western civilisation face from a plethora of ever changing fronts, the quasi-religious socialist march through our institutions has reached saturation, now we're watching the power-play amongst the chosen groups and the inevitable carnage of innocent lives as the battle continues.
time to revisit douglas's earlier book, the strange death of europe.
we're facing a strange death indeed, one of a thousand cuts, one where we sacrifice our children to monsters.

Historia
Social justice warriors have plagued mankind for more than 150 years, but only in the last 30 years has their ideology become dominant in the West. Having invaded one institution of the cultural high ground after another, from corporations and churches to video games and government, there is nowhere that remains entirely free of their intolerant thought and speech policing.

Revisado: 09-05-19
Having been across gamer gate at the time and subsequently many dealings with these moronic snowflakes I didn’t expect to learn too much from this book, however I found it extremely useful, enlightening and in many places amusing.
Thoroughly recommend.

Historia
In this devastating critique of the mindset behind the failed social policies of the past 30 years, Thomas Sowell sees what has happened not as a series of isolated mistakes, but as a logical consequence of a vision whose defects have led to disasters in education, crime, family disintegration, and more. This is an empirical study in which “politically correct” theory is repeatedly confronted with facts, and the sharp contradictions between the two are explained in terms of a set of self-congratulatory assumptions held by political and intellectual elites.

full disclosure, I'm an avid fan of thomas sowell. can't recommend this enough, be sure to check out his appearances on early 80's television “discussions” (youtube) where-by he points out what is wrong with our social policy "planners” assertions and actions. his predictions and observations have been proven correct by din of the last 30yrs.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

keep social justice out of my sf!
Revisado: 11-18-17
simply disappointed.
great performance, however, weir has fallen for the “let's push our intersectional-bs ideology to score some virtue points” caper. seriously, just stop.
could not finish. what a pity after “the martian” which mixed hard-science, humour and a crackingly paced story. artemis tries to do this however what we get is the humour swapped out for virtue-signalling.

teen-scifi, was lacking, didn't quite get there
Revisado: 12-05-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
nup, i'm sure it struck a chord with a bunch of teenagers
What didn’t you like about Kirby Heyborne’s performance?
performance wasn't terrible, it did get annoying with the depiction of yelling... over, and over and over again.
Could you see Mine being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
sure, it'd make for a good tv series, still be lacking though
Any additional comments?
didn't follow through with the concept.

solid, yet flawed
Revisado: 12-01-14
great premise, this is a personal gripe but i HATE magic in my scifi, there was an attempt to address this yet i felt the author failed (with this particular criticism)... i'm not going to give anything away.
don't get me wrong overall good story, i'm a sucker for a "first-contact" fabel, the attempt to marry up the tech with what we know about neuro-science in my mind missed... the past decade of our understanding about consciouness does not marry up with her science here.
that aside a good story, character development and some nice tension etc, well worth a listen.

hallianan can certainly build up some comedy and a character or two, great listen this one, i'll be checking out the next "junior" adventure.
berkrot nailed the performance i would have given this an extra star for the story, however i found particular plot movements predictable (from me that's saying something) and the moralising was laid on a just a little thick for my liking. probably unfair criticism but there you go.

Historia
A unique science fiction first-contact novel told from the aliens' point-of-view; a 21st-century Gulliver's Travels with Homo sapiens as the Lilliputians. The last thing the factfinders - who call themselves Life - expected to find while traveling in space in The Curious on a mission from their planet, The Living World, was other life. But one day they stumble upon the third planet out from a backwater sun and find it teeming with a vast diversity of life, including one sentient and cognizant, if primitive, species that they dub: Otherlife.

if you like a bit of fun while being criticised (ala "year zero" by reid), then perhaps "travelling in space" is the book for you, jeff did a bang up job with the narration however the magic was the view point presented from the visitors.
i did feel leiva backed off on some topics, and straight out whimped out on others, however hit the nail on the head on most (for me).
well worth a listen.
