Historia
Nobody likes The Complaints - they're the cops who investigate other cops. Complaints and Conduct Department, to give them their full title, but known colloquially as 'the Dark Side', or simply 'The Complaints'. Malcolm Fox works for The Complaints. He's just had a result, and should be feeling good about himself. But he's middle-aged, sour and unwell.

The narrator is brilliant! He adds to the enjoyment and authenticity of the book. I do miss Rebus, though.

Historia
Caleb Cheeshateaumauk was the first native American to graduate from Harvard College back in 1665. Caleb's Crossing gives voice to his little known story. Caleb, a Wampanoag from the island of Martha's Vineyard, seven miles off the coast of Massachusetts, comes of age just as the first generation of Indians come into contact with English settlers, who have fled there, desperate to escape the brutal and doctrinaire Puritanism of the Massachusetts Bay colony.

The tragedy of hate and war.
Revisado: 06-14-24
It seems almost impossible, today, with all our easy access to learning and information, that a person had suffer and sacrifice so much for an education. The story is beautiful and so, so terribly sad. I was heartbroken at times, humiliated to be part of "the priviliged" and ashamed of our lack of true compassion. But also encouraged that somehow, somewhere redemption is still possible.

Historia
The city of Austin, Texas, "is fearfully dull", wrote young Will Porter to a friend in the spring of 1885, "except for the frequent raids of the Servant Girl Annihilators, who make things lively in the dead of night." Years later Will Porter would become the most famous writer in America - O. Henry, the toast of New York. The long-ago Austin servant girl murders would remain unsolved. But behind the O. Henry pen name, Will Porter was a man with secrets.

Writing a murder mystery from the perspective of the murderer is a splendid idea. If done with flair and innovation. Inspector Sejer is why we read the books. He is an afterthought in this book. Utterly boring.

Barack Obama
Revisado: 02-28-21
Once every century a truly great man is born.
Mr. Obama is one of the few enduring heroes that lives amongst us.
No, he is not a saint, or the Redeemer. But he honestly tried his best.
The book is well written, no unnecassary frills or explanations, or vanity.
The narration is excellent, the story line fluid and comprehensive.
I loved this Audio book!

A Pity Party
Revisado: 10-11-19
This is a terrible book and story. Poor pitiful me.....It is ALL about her, her battle, her victory.. The dead bodies in the wake of her epic journey do not count. No real remorse for the betrayal, no atonement for lives, trust and love destroyed. Which, by the way, is part of the twelve step AA program.
Prime example of a narcissitic personality disorder. Do not waste precious time on this book. It is fake.
