Addiction Sitcom
Revisado: 04-16-25
If you think a cringy, corny sitcom about drug addiction and privilege would be funny, this book is for you. The narrator/author is probably the silliest, most obnoxious of all times and is extremely grating. The story has no redeeming qualities,

Historia
Anne Frank's The Diary of a Young Girl has captivated and inspired people for decades. Published posthumously by her bereaved father, Anne's journal, written while she and her family were in hiding during World War II, has become one of the central texts of the Jewish experience during the Holocaust, as well as a work of literary genius. Bestselling author Alice Hoffman delivers a stunning novel about one of contemporary history's most acclaimed figures, exploring the little-known details of Anne Frank's life before she went into hiding.

More Timely Than Ever
Revisado: 11-09-24
The day after the 2024 election, I began listening to this book. I finished it quickly and in tears. I didn’t think, after all these years, that I would turn back to Anne as I had at age 11, for strength and courage. We will all need it these next 4 years. Thank you, Alice Hoffman.

Interesting with irritating narration
Revisado: 10-24-24
This story is rather interesting and relatable in some ways . When speaking normally, the narration is good. Unfortunately, this narrator’s big mistakes occurred when she tried other voices. When will they ever learn not to talk baby talk? Her voices for the children were downright cringy and obnoxious. Her accents for others were equally bad. The narrator definitely had a negative impact on the story. The couple was so pretentious that they were unlikable for the most part. Why tell your partner about a brief affair after the fact? This was baffling. I am only half way through, but am reduced to listening while driving in traffic to work and on errands.

Interesting but a bit heavy handed
Revisado: 09-09-24
This was a good story with an interesting setting. The writer was ham fisted with the lipstick imagery and character development. The main character seemed to have a lot of time on her hands to involve herself in last minute trips and community affairs for someone who was supposed to be a vital part of the medical team.

Historia
In 2011, three successful and highly educated women fell head over heels for the brilliant and charming Ethan Schuman. Unbeknownst to the others, each exchanged countless messages with Ethan, staying up late into the evenings to deepen their connections with this fascinating man. His detailed excuses about broken webcams and complicated international calling plans seemed believable, as did last minute trip cancellations. After all, why would he lie? Ethan wasn't after money—he never convinced his marks to shell out thousands of dollars for some imagined crisis.

Too long and drawn out
Revisado: 07-20-24
While this was a fascinating story, the author drug it out so long that it became tedious. Could easily have been shorter.

Historia
Jane Connor is resigned to being the “plain Jane” of her family—pragmatic and dependable—so unlike her beautiful and impetuous younger sister Esme. When Esme calls Jane during a flash summer storm, announcing she’s left her high society husband, Jane is shocked to learn that her sister wishes to stay with her. Could this be an opportunity for them to become close again? The only catch: Esme needs a ride from the city to their small Connecticut hometown, and Jane is terrified of getting on the highway…because of what she did when they were teens.

Unlikable characters, boring story
Revisado: 03-30-24
The narration was sooo bad…she speaks with such a sardonic, unemotional cadence that it was impossible to like or feel anything for the characters. The story itself was implausible, meandering, and a bit boring although the split story idea could have been interesting. Will not be seeking this author out anytime soon and NEVER the narrator.

Historia
Fugitive Colors is a gripping debut novel of an artist's indomitable vengeance after World War II. Julian Klein, a young American artist, rebels against his religious upbringing and is eager for the artistic freedom of 1930s Paris. He flees Chicago only to find himself consumed by a world in which a paintbrush is far more lethal than a gun. An artist turned spy, Julian at the same time competes with jealous inferior artists who feverishly attempt to destroy those with true talent.

Interesting historical perspective on Hitler’s war on expressionist/abstract art
Revisado: 02-12-24
The focus on Hitler’s war on the art world was a unique and interesting plot. But the story itself was ludicrous and implausible, with weak character development. It was tediously drawn out with ridiculous details and I would not be inclined to read other works by this author. While the narrator was okay, he made frequent mispronunciations that should not have been missed by editors.

WAY too long
Revisado: 04-21-23
This book desperately needed editing as it seemed endless and packed with too much uninteresting detail. I usually get immersed in this genre of books, so this was atypical for me. Three stories were intertwined in sort of a convoluted, convoluted way. I wouldn’t recommend it.
