Glad I finally listened/read this author. As a hero to my heroes, I’ve wanted to read Woolf but never could get past the first chapter of Mrs. Dalloway. Woolf’s insight into the psyche of people, their fictitious narratives of friends/acquaintances and their personal internal battles hung together by the observances (or rebellion) of societal & familial structures rings heartbreakingly true. The writing is breathtaking and Stevenson’s narration beautiful. Highly recommend.

Historia
Labeled variously a realistic story of whaling, a romance of unusual adventure and eccentric characters, a symbolic allegory, and a drama of heroic conflict, Moby Dick is first and foremost a great story. It has both the humor and poignancy of a simple sea ballad, as well as the depth and universality of a grand odyssey.

If dreading to start, you won’t regret finishing this book!

I listened to this book for a book club, otherwise can’t say that it would have caught my interest. I chose this audible version based on the reviews and it did not disappoint. First, mad props to the narrator, Frank Mueller. He brought to life the wit, self-deprication, and tongue-in-cheek humor that made this story such a delight to listen to. I’ve just bought another audible that he narrated, trusting his phenomenal reading/ acting abilities. Melville’s novel truly is a masterpiece that is part whale research dissertation, part religious reflection with the some obscure biblical references and part Greek epic where mythical references abound. The sub-stories of the characters caught up in this tale are themselves poignant pictures of human frailty and triumph. Overall, I heartedly recommend! I know I will listen to it again.
