Contradictions in information
Revisado: 01-04-24
On one hand this book advises against travel to bad neighborhoods then specifically recommends local restaurant chains that are almost exclusively in these neighborhoods! If you go to Harold's Chicken or JJ Fish anywhere in the city other than downtown, YOU ARE IN A BAD NEIGHBORHOOD!
Comment on Chicago water is an outright lie! Chicago toilets DO NOT flush into Lake Michigan. They flush into the Chicago River after being treated which flows AWAY from the lake. White particles in Chicago water are NOT fecal matter but are dissolved minerals.

Needs more pauses. Yes really!
Revisado: 12-06-23
William Shatner has been well known for many decades for his seemingly unnecessary dramatic pauses, for which he had been made fun of by multiple comedians and Saturday Night Live.
But this book really needs some.
Shatner has been made fun of for so long I think he got sick of it, so this book doesn't have any.
A pause between sentences when you are changing the subject is a good thing.
This book has all sorts of stories from what has been a bery interesting life. It is at times funny, sad and all things in-between.
This is the first of Mr. Shatner books I have listened to, but it will not be the last.

Historia
Built in 1927, the German ocean liner Cap Arcona was the greatest ship since the Titanic. When the Nazis seized control, she was stripped down for use as a floating barracks and troop transport. Hitler's minister, Joseph Goebbels, later cast her as a "star" in the epic propaganda film about the sinking of the legendary Titanic. In the Third Reich's final desperate days, when SS Cap Arcona was mistakenly bombed by the British Air Force, concentration camp prisoners packed the ship.

Too much background
Revisado: 06-15-23
This book is heavy on filler and very light on the ship it is supposed to be about.
I do not need to hear details about Nazi atrocities at such and such concentration camp in a book that is supposed to be about a ship.
The author does not stick to the subject at all.
I suspect if he had, this would have been a magazine article, not a book.

Great information
Revisado: 06-05-23
This book is as one expects very dry. I'mBit the information can be invaluable.
At the end they give some case studies and walk you through their analysis of the interviews. The last one is Jerry Sandusky. At the time of interview arrested but not tried. The authors point out all the times Sandusky exhibits deceptive behaviors in the interview.
As we know now he is a serial child rapist. The authors were correct. The interview was full of lies.

Historia
The Lewis and Clark Expedition, notwithstanding its merits as a feat of exploration, was also the first tentative claim on the vast interior and the western seaboard of North America by the United States. It set in motion the great movement west that began almost immediately with the first commercial overland expedition funded by John Jacob Astor’s Pacific Fur Company and would continue with the establishment of the Oregon Trail and California Trail. That quest would reach its ultimate expression ...when the last spike was driven into the Union Pacific Railroad.

Waste of time and money.
Revisado: 02-12-23
The title is wrong.
This book is not a history of the Union Pacific Railroad.
it's just that simple.
it is the story of one single project, the building of the Transcontinental Railroad and it glosses over lots of that.

Cost too much at free.
Revisado: 02-03-23
This book is genuinely overpriced at free.
It's just a long-winded opinion piece.
Pretty much consists of nothing but things the author does not like. which I did expect. However I also expected the back stories behind these horrible ideas. Things such as why did ANYBODY think changing the formula for Coca-Cola was a good idea?
Nothing but crickets.

Join Michael Wigge as he immerses himself into fascinating subcultures, rides with Amish farmers in old-fashioned buggies, sleeps on the street with the homeless, and, with the help from alternative lifestylers, learns to nourish himself with flowers. Wigge had only three concerns during his travels: How do I get some food? How will I get to my next destination? Where can I sleep? …all without money! This unusual travel diary combines adventure with humor and contains surprising revelations about when money is really needed - and when it's not.

Advocates theft of services.
Revisado: 08-18-21
It turns out the author is the lowest form of human being.
He wanted to go on a grand adventure without paying for it.
I have no problem with him working on an Amish farm or painting railings on a transatlantic container ship. in fact I applaud those things.
But when he eats at a homeless shelter literally taking food from the mouth of someone who NEEDS it or when he accepts charity from people trying to live on a couple of dollars a day I can't help but be outraged by his greed.
Then there are the two occasions he commits outright theft.
To take from those with little or nothing because you don't WANT to spend any money is a sin and a shame.
But hey. it got this jerk a book deal.
