Historia
Fredericka Hale needs a husband, and fast. She’s been caring for her deceased sister’s three young children, and now a childless cousin has petitioned the court for custody. Fredericka is powerless to stop her, but having a husband might sway the ruling. The last thing Fredericka wants is a hurried-up marriage to a man she doesn’t know―much less love, but she’ll do it for the children. So when the handsome Duke of Wyatthaven shows up with a proposal, she accepts. He’ll help her, and in return, they’ll lead separate lives.

Good book that is worth a credit.
Revisado: 04-23-25
I bought Book 2 of this series first because of the bad review someone gave Book 1. After listening to Book 2 a couple of times, I decided to also get Book 1, and I enjoyed it very much. It was an interesting, well-written Regency romance, and worth a credit and at least 4 stars. I totally disagree with the previous reviewe, I've read hundreds of Regency romances over the years, and this is far better than the majority of them. I don't write reviews very often, but want potential readers to take the previous review posted with a grain of salt.

Historia
With little to live on but her romantic daydreams - which frequently starred the dashing Marquess of Fleetwater - Jean Lindsay lived a rather dismal life with her nasty, drunken uncle. Jean was always the object of ridicule, that is, until news of her unexpected inheritance spread. Suddenly her worn dresses became "quaint" and her forthright manner turned magically to "charming", but to Jean's horror, someone wanted her dead!

"Hero" greatly flawed
Revisado: 12-20-24
"Hero" greatly flawed throughout entire story, consistently unheroic. I disliked him intensely. I've read all Marion Chesney/MC Beaton regency romances and found most of them very enjoyable. But this Hero was just too far below the line of Heroic for me.

i'm an avid regency romance reader and own over 700 such audiobooks as well as several thousand such e-books. I own and have read and listened to all of this author's print and audio books. I've always found listening to this author read aloud her own books quite pleasurable. I found this a book worth a credit and enjoyed it a great deal. I gave this book 4 stars as to narration because I noticed that she made a few reading stumbles during one chapter. It didn't spoil my own enjoyment, but might be a problem for a listener who demands perfection. I only gave the story itself 4 stars because of my own bias against stories involving the painful difficulties in Ireland, and characters who are full of B.S. aka Blarney, and I prefer stories who do not incorporate drinking lots of whiskey as a normal part of their lives.

Historia
Julian Langham was poised on the brink of a dazzling career when the lawyers lured him into making a catastrophic mistake. Now, instead of the concert platform, he has a title he doesn’t want, an estate verging on bankruptcy...and bewildering responsibilities for which he is totally unfitted. And yet the wreckage of Julian’s life is not a completely ill wind. For Tom, Rob, and Ellie it brings something that is almost a miracle...if they dare believe in it.

I liked this book. I've read and heard many thousands of romances, many of them regency. For some past reason which I can no longer remember, I've avoided reading this author's books, but due to a recent 5 star book review on author Mary Kingswood's website I decided to get this one and I'm glad that I did. Some of her other books in this series now look interesting to me and I will probably read and/or listen to them as well.

Another fun, interesting, well-written, clean Regency romance. I like all of the books in the Mercer House series, but this particular book is my own personal Favorite. I discovered this author several years ago through my Kindle Unlimited subscription, and I now own and have read all of this auther's print e-books. I also love experiencing each fictional world again when the audiobook becomes available.

I first read the print version of this book, and then when the audiobook became available, I purchased it and listened to it as well. This is a keeper, a book I plan to listen to again after time passes. Well-written, interesting, and clean regency romance. Previously I read another reviewer's comments re concerns aboutthe Hero's alcohol use and recovery. As the wfie of a recovering alcoholic with AA connections who has now been 37 years sober, my own take is that there can sometimes be physical differences between "drinking" problems, as well as between other conditions. My own husband's sobriety success has required total abstence from alcohol, which is the case of those with whom we are acquainted, however, I have heard that there are some people more on the borderline of alcholism who can successfully apply strict limitations to their use of alcohol such as those used within this book. I was able to accept that concept as used by the author. Also I comfort myself with the fact that this story takes place in a short period of time within a fictional, make-believe world, and at some future time, the Hero could choose total abstinance as his behavior and have a HAE of longterm sombriety.
